Is there a story behind your screen name?

    I'm just a mushroom.

That's my motto at work. They keep me in the dark, and feel me a load of %^@#. Yes, mushrooms are grown in horse manure.

Yep, I worked with a guy who we called "Jim the Squid", but in that case it was ironic because he was the most cautious guy we knew.

Although my screen name is an aviation term and a band, in my case it's a variation on my real name.

I am an engineer, and my last name is "Gunn", so this makes a good melding of the two. Also, It's not taken anywhere I try it.

It takes people who know my by name a few minutes to figure it out, but I think it's pretty clever.

First time out on the new boyfriend's sailboat, I jumped up and did it all - raised sail, hauled anchor, tied bowlines and cleat hitches, trimmed the jib and main. Heeled the boat while at the tiller and declared her a good girl.

When we were done for the day, wanted to impress him by cringling the main. R-I-I-I-P!! Tugged a 6-inch tear into the foot of the mainsail. I apologized all the way back to the cove.

He laughed. The sails were originals, 30 years old and long overdue for the waste bin.

Cost him 6 "boat bucks" (when you own a boat 'round here, every thousand dollars is "just a boat buck") for new sails.

He still asked me back for another sail.

A couple of months into the relationship, Dan watched me work through a breast lump and biopsy. I think he was more scared than I was. That's when he started calling me Spunky.

Three years later, we've been married for seven months and I've only run the boat aground twice. :)

I'm a musician... I record stuff under the name "Heuristics Inc." I use this screen name a lot. If it's already taken it's probably because I already signed up somewhere. The story behind the name was that I named a mix-tape with that name after opening a computer science a.i. textbook to a random page and grabbing the first word I saw. The "Inc" was for fun. Soon after that I decided I'd better come up with a name for my recording project & the actual meaning fit my musical m.o., so I re-appropriated it & have been using it since (1992 or so).

Mine's my Yahoo ID so it's easy to remember. As for what it means, it was the project number for Rhoda on the 60s sitcom My Living Doll staring Julie Newmar. :)

As an avatar I used to have a license plate with "<heart> HYBRID." My present avatar is Silver Belle, which is who my Prius "Blue Belle" is named after.

    I like the m-w.com definitions:

    Yes, definitely synthesizers!
Now I don't recall if my homepage is linked from the profile... but http://www.heuristicsinc.com... yes, there are much synthesizers... :)

Now here I was thinking, with the '06 line-in jack, I could have a car concert... run live audio through the car stereo system... ;)
