Is there anything ‘special’ about aux batt charge characteristics?

    Hi all,

I’m looking to buy a multistage DC to DC charge unit to function as both battery isolator and (possibly lithium) charger for a secondary aux to run a fulltime 18litre fridge. I realise even a small fridge in a situation like this will be working pretty hard so would like to get the setup right.

The secondary charge units I’m looking at state suitability with ‘smart’ alternators and I’m wondering, given the Prius does not have an alternator, are there particular characteristics to the Prius charge system that might mess with the funtion of a secondary charge unit?

    Thanks for your time.

why not leave the car ready and run the fridge off of an inverter?

I’m not always going to be with the car to leave it in ready mode.

Seems safer to have a small secondary aux system. Plus inverters are inherantly lossy.
