Went to see a used 2006 Prius off Facebook Marketplace today, going for US$4300, 140k miles. No OBD, so did the unscientific charge up and rundown according to this. About 55-60% health. 12V battery check looks fine. Driving feels fine, no suspicious sounds. Interior is clean. Took off the oil cap after the drive, and I think I remember seeing a little bit of smoke. Can't see too clearly into the tank, but seems like the bottom of it has black unevenly surrounding a clearer surface. Air pulses out like a hairdryer on low.

It's a US northeastern car, so some rust below.

Feels like a slightly worn engine? It is a sellers market right now, and finding a car has been a real pain, so I was really tempted to just pay. Better sense prevailed and I gave myself a day to think. Seller also made me wait an hour, so that doesn't feel good, lol. What do you guys think? Yay or nay?

Gonna need a hybrid battery instantly and the Ac not working which may be $$$.

If your worried about rust why take pictures of the back the expensive end is up front.

    I think run.

I think I was also there yesterday looking at the same one - was this the blue one? I was planning on getting it inspected today, the guy claims it was a fully working AC. Can you PM me?

you'd have to be desperte to buy an old prius, or wealthy enough to buy a new one, or?

you're a fabulous diy'er, unafraid of any and all mechanical and electronic issues, with all the necessary tools

    Tough choice.

If you are able to DIY some things and maintenance then it could be worth that,
but if you cannot perform any DIY then the price and costs could be high.
Depends on how much budget you have.

If you do have a higher budget, might be better to opt for something a bit newer.
all depends on many things we do not know.

    good luck
