Is this a decent deal on a 2004 with 220k liles?

    I'm not annoyed.

Your journey to whatever you plan to do next...has been interesting. And it's NOT over yet.

I know it probably does sound snarky. BUT...what I'm saying is that in the age, mileage and price range of most of your prospects? Whether it's a "good deal" is almost immaterial. Unless you are paying a RIDICULOUS amount above the local going price or Kelley Blue Book, the viability or value of all the deals are about the same.

You're looking at non-divorceable risk, and vehicles that IF you buy you should know and be willing to invest more. Or be willing to take a total loss and move on.

They can only be good deals...if it's a good deal to you.
But there is no way, anybody on the internet, sight unseen can really tell you if any of your prospects are "good deals".

Some would simply conclude that once a Prius reaches 10-15 years or more old..and 100,000's of thousand of miles of useage, it really is NEVER a good deal.

As long as the buyer is willing to embrace the reality and risk. I don't default to that thinking.

While I respect your intentions, if you are going to keep buying Prius beaters, you need to learn how to buy and work on them.

    Well, that's mine.
I will continue to follow your thread, but refrain from repeating my opinion, on the specific issue over and over.
Good Luck with whatever Prius "Project" you end up embracing.
Let us know what one you do eventually decide on.

Again - you’re making it seems as if I have 3 beater Priuses just laying around. I don’t

I needed a car, bought a 2019 Prius I am happy with it but now I am just looking for a Prius to work on. Never worked on a hybrid so I wanna get my hands on one

So the seller is now selling it for $1700

I found a beater 2007 prius for $900, runs but it needs new catalytic converter, there is a 2006 being sold as is for $600 this should be interesting

only if they don't sell, and don't drop the price. but i see people throw stuff out there to see what sticks all the time, especially in the age of the internet. there's a sucker born every minute.

Either I am a terrible buyer and cant find good deals or these people are insane

2007 Salvage title Prius 196k miles, I checked its VIN and 3 collisions in 1 freaking year what the hell? They are asking $5500

Not even local dealers are asking for this much for the same, these private sellers are insane

I have a 2008 Prius standard touring model that I recently explored trading in on a new Prius Prime. Our vehicle has 140,000 miles on it - no problems. Gets around 45 to 47 mpg in winter near 50 in the summer. Interior, exterior in good shape - the dealer offered me $2,200. KBB gives me an estimate of $2,400 for our area as a value for this vehicle. I live in the central usa - Kentucky to be exact.

From some of the discussions it seems the area of the country you are in does affect the Prius desirability or worth.

We have decided to wait until 2020 and hope the new Prius Prime Hybrid will have a higher electric range before switching over to gas.

You can play private car sales bingo with some of the Craigslist ads. You fill a board with post attributes like:
    • "NO LOW BALLERS!"
    • "Ran when parked'
    • free space: "I know what I have"
    • delusional pricing
    • trade for Ferrari, Lambo (when the car is eBay parts modified)
    • one sentence description
    • stolen picture or stock photo
    • only one low-res picture of the vehicle
I'm in the market for a V8-engined sports car (never owned one and gas prices are low) and pricing is like Wth for a lot of cars ("it's been in two accidents, so clearly we should ask only 8k over KBB!").

So would you take say between $1800-$2100 cash if someone were to offer it?

I found another 2007 salvage Prius with electrical problems for $800 with 143k miles, if its nothing major I might offer the seller $500 and tow it back home.

But yeah I am might just wait a bit longer for this "project" of mine, I have a working Prius so I am not in urgent to get this done but private sellers are insane around my area

I have noticed that too, KBB says a price and these people advertise it almost 50% over it, I guess their mentality is people are gonna low ball them so they might as well overprice it 50% more so they can meet at KBB. Its stupid and they are stubborn, as soon you mentioned something closer to its trade in value, oh boy do they get pissed

    Hey John,

We discussed hybrid mechanics in Central KY in the thread I started about it. I'm sure you could get more than that for a good 140K 2008 in KY. After all, I paid $3800 for mine with 216K from Digital Auto in Lexington. They might actually give you more for it than your dealer (Frankfort?).

If I was still in the market, I would definitely have paid you more than trade-in for your car, probably more on the order of $3000 to $4000. Alas, I'm not in the market now.
