Is this a normal sound regarding the brakes?

    See if you can drive a demo, or if you know someone with another Prius, bring them along for a listen. The (loose) consensus above is that it's the electric motors in the transaxle, making their distinctive generator whine sound. That'll happen pretty much whenever you get on the brakes. If that's the sound, gotta say I like it: it's the sound of free electrons. :)

    These young ones with good hearing, anything bothers them. ;) They need a few more hours of loud rock music or window down driving to "adjust" their hearing.
