My parents want to buy another Gen II Prius. The one they are looking at is a 2007 Package #5 (nav but no leather) with 73,000 miles for $12301 + TTL. The thing is it's not Certified Pre Owned. Is that an ok deal?

I have been out of the market for Priuses in 4 years now. I have no idea what's good and not good.

My 2006 is maybe $9000 value, so I'd be expecting $10k-11k for 2007 but sounds like owner is expecting some return on investment for the NAV level 5. If you are in CARB state the HV battery is guaranteed for 10-yrs, but only 8-yrs in Non-CARB, so 2007 could be close to end of warranty depending on orig date of purchase. What state are you in?

    California.

This is from a Toyota dealer too, not private sale.

Well Prii go a little higher in CA, and you would still have some time left on CARB warranty, assuming HV battery has not already been replaced and assuming this is a CA-certified car. You would not want to pay that for a car from out-of-state but I assume it is CARB-car.

i would check a few book values, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to me in cali from a dealer, as long as no accidents, major repairs and well maintained.

I just paid $10K for my 2007 Touring package #3 (there is no package #4?) with 112K. KBB said it was worth $12K at a dealer, I believe that NADA said something similar. All others that I looked at in the $10K range had similar miles. A 73K mile package 5 in my zip is $12,100 according to KBB, $11,100 according to NADA. Depending on your zip, it might be a little high, but not much.

I'd offer $12K "out the door" including TTL.

According to CarGurus.com's Market Calculator, that's not too bad of a deal. (See below.) Shown below is for Oregon pricing. You could go to carguru.com for California prices.

Thanks guys. Is it worth paying for the car to get inspected by a local mechanic since it's not Certified?

I think it always prudent to get a pre-purchase inspection by either an independent Toyota shop with Toyota certified master mechanics with Prius experience, or by a Toyota dealership. $100 to $150 is cheap insurance.
