It's time to consider reinstating Pete Rose as a candidate to the MLB Hall of Fame

Honestly, I have trouble grasping the American/Christian ideal of 'forgiveness', probably because I am neither, and more often than not forgiveness is simply a hypocritical stance to advance an agenda. Pete Rose: Gambling by participants in the sport corrupt and lessen the sport. Those are not the actions of a great participant. Sportspeople who are liars and slanderers are not great participants of a sport. Sportspeople who lessen their community are not people I wish to remember, or show for posterity to emulate.

Rose was stupid enough to bet on baseball despite the decades old rules against it. He knew the consequences and is now dealing with it. I'm fine with that.

While the rules in baseball were behind the times with PEDs the law was not. Players like Clements, Bonds and others who have the numbers to make it likely never will and I'm fine with that as well.

 

In the end Rose made his bed and sleeps in it although it is a victimless crime, as 2 baseball players during practice in deep right field one says I bet you can't hit home plate with the ball and the other says I'll take that and lets it rip. oops.

Chuck you can't bring in an example of a Doping Trial at a Gambling Trial. That is a kangaroo court. That is like treating the Flu as if it were measles. Convince me Pete Rose is guilty and his punishment is Just and it impacted the game and I may agree. Bud Selig is a nut case. When he gets a stroke and someone new emerges Pete will be reinstated as the Great Player he is and his gambling will be a foot note in History.

Expunging stats or not recognizing them are the only real weapon sports have against greedy cheats. If you're going to cave, at the very least wait until they're dead. And then do it without ceremony.
