Okay. So, the last two times a brought my Prius into the dealership, they tried to sell me a service I've never heard of...

The advisor walks over and states that the mechanic wants to hook my car up to an IV drip to clean my fuel injectors. WT@? Has anyone EVER heard of this? I can just picture my beloved Prius being hooked up to an IV drip with the bag hanging from the metal post... I can barely afford MY health insurance!

All kidding aside. Has ANYONE ever heard of this? If so, can you explain what this is and why it would benefit my vehicle?

Just to clarify, this service is not the same as the fuel induction service, where they clean the throttle plate, etc. I had THAT done not too long ago. This is a DIFFERENT service they are recommending.

Not to ramble, but this is the same dealership that told me NOT to change my Transaxle Fluid, until I demanded it be done. I'm running out of local dealerships to service my car... Good grief...

The adviser was lying when he said it cleans the injectors, it's for cleaning out your wallet and I must admit it probably does a very good job.

Just put a bottle of Techron concentrate in the gas tank whenever you change your oil. Also, watch out for those wallet flushes.

Thanks for the quick responses. I thought it was bogus... I almost laughed in the guy's face when he said it, but I had to get some opinions on the topic!

Maybe you should write to Toyota Corporate and see if they are aware of this practice at your dealership. It would be interesting to see what they have to say!

I had a gentleman show up yesterday to have me replace his drive belt and brake fluid after Toyota of G******e recommended it. The problem was neither of us could find the cracks they were talking about, and the brake fluid test strip did not change color.

Maybe those dealer advocates here can explain this?

Here is a copy of the service record where they note I declined the IV drip. They state it as declined fuel injector cleaning. They also note I declined to replace my tires, but I know they have another 10,000 miles to go! And, because they said that I needed new tires, the service advisor IGNORED my request for a tire rotation!

Note: I removed all personal and dealership information. I do not want to cause any problems for priuschat.com.

Hmmm, looking closely I see they charged you for five (5) quarts of oil. It might be a good idea to check your oil level on your dip stick. If they put in five (5) quarts, you are definitely over filled. Max on the Gen II is 3.9 and generally 3.5 quarts will do the job.

If you find it overfilled, I would take the car back to the dealer who did the work, and demand they drain off the excess oil and refund you the price difference. Sorry to hear you are having bad luck finding a reputable dealer in your area.
