Jack Points / Lift Points

Yes, it is stated on your Owner's manual.

I saw the pic in the manual, then looked under the car.. It's a little unclear to me where these points are..
In the picture, it almost seems like there is only one lift point up front.
I wonder if there are some bottom views of the frame, or some photos of the lift points on-line??

 

Use something like these when jacking at the pinch welds with a floor jack:

There is only 1 point on the front and the rear. You should use jack stands on the pinch points on the sides of the car.

 

Pinch points? Where are those? I couldn't really find a good place for jack stands the other day...

 

If you run your hand underneath the door, you will see a metal ridge. On said ridge is a spot that is double welded. This spot is made for your scissor jack or a jack stand.

Yeah, I've got that commercial adapter as well for my floor jack. It works well and is stable.

Jack up the car, slip a jack stand in.

That's a tow hook bolted to the frame. It's structurally more sound than some random spot of non-reinforced sheet metal under the car (aka, anywhere else that is not the official jacking point illustrated in the manual). BTW, I keep the jack in place (slightly lowered, but still in place) as backup.

 

But round metal being supported by flat metal is not safer... any wiggle will cause this to slip.

 

I didn't know that there was so much interest in jacking adapters.

I made these for the Gen III Prius. I don't know, if they will work for the "c."

They spread the contact point over a wide area of four inches. It's only 1-1/2 inches for the OEM scissors jack.

 

Those will work on a ton of cars. You should sell them on ebay. *disclaimer: cannot guarantee.

 

I'm considering putting them up on the PriusChat "private sale" forum.

I didn't like the non-flexible steel commercial one, because it still can crinkle the body sheet metal at or near the pinch weld. Theirs does not swivel and might contact the body sheet metal only on one or two points.

Mine has a degree of flexibility to prevent damage to the sheet metal and the pinch welds.

It is made of a thick one eight inch wall age hardened 6061-T6 aluminum extrusion. The "angles" in the slot bend and flex slightly to distribute the contact surface to conform to the sheet metal around the pinch weld.

It is made to bend slightly, which is NOT a defect. It is part of the design.

It is made from USA made aluminum and is machines here, in the USA, in my own shop.

It is carefully finished and de burred, so it won't likely scratch the paint off to cause the sheet metal to rust.


It is NOT made in China.
