Japanese version of CanView

Yes is there any more "word" on this. Learn Japanese is on my life time to do list, some what after just visit Japan. This could be a start.

It now has his own CAN decoder instead of the expensive CAN232 device.
We are discussing to improve visibility while driving, bigger fonts/simple display for easy to read.
The screen resolution is the same among 2004-2005 Prius worldwide, however the current design is for Japanese model with Navi only.
As of today, we have no information for Japanese non-Navi or for other countries.

Kanji font to English font conversion is easy, but km/L to MPG conversion will need some work, I bekieve.

I don't care if it's in Km or Miles and in Kani, Ewnglish, or Latin for that matter - we need to know how to order it!

Please note that it is still a prototype. There is only one unit available for his Prius.
He is now building the second unit for Japanese Prius with Navi for a monitor tester.

Again, "As of today, we have no information for Japanese non-Navi or for other countries", which means he can't build one unless he found or someone supplied all electric signals and connectors information for the vehicle.
Therefore, there is no plan to supply the MS-1 for any US Prius on any model years.

Are there any volunteers who can send the US prius 2004-2005 and/or 2006 to Japan?

It would be easier to arrange for him to come here. Shipping a car is expensive - plane tickets are relatively cheap. When he is closer to needing a prtotype platform for a US model, we should invite him to come over and visit for a while.

 

Just ran across this, and it is really quite the cat's meow. I'd buy one in a stinkin' minute! Nice work to the gentleman who is doing the developing!

I would donate a few dollars. I would donate more if I could get a discount on the final product. Maybe even a cheaper "built it yourself" model where you solder the parts and install the firmware yourself.

I would like to see 99% of the features in the canview featured on this new product. Don't really need any of the hardware side but some features would be cool like an extra video in jack. Maybe even make the firmware opensource so other people could make their own code. Just throwing some ideas out there.

stop teasing us . I would buy this product too! And I'm willing to paypal some money (maybe a down payment on the product?) to help bring it to American shores.

 

I gotta say its sweet, however, this tops the cell phone distraction and I have strong reservations about distracting driver attention, cause you know it's going to eventually set off someone's air bags!!
