JBL speaker not connected

The front driver's speaker is disintegrated on my recently acquired Prius, so I have been watching out for a factory JBL speaker to replace it with. I was fortunate enough to find an unmolested JBL-equipped Prius in the junkyard today. I pulled the door panel off, drilled out the rivets, and pulled the pristine speaker. Much to my surprise, the speaker wasn't connected to anything, no wires in the area, and there's no plug to even connect the speaker to the amp. There aren't even any spade connectors on the speaker. I wish I had done two things: taken pictures and taken the speaker. Once I saw that, I thought the speaker would be useless. Are there any guesses as to how this happened?
