I have a 2006 toyota prius & ive had it for about 3 months now. 3 weeks into having the car i decided to install my JBL subwoofer and 1000 watt amp from a local audio store. (This audio store had previously installed two of my cars) (which turned out to be fine) So it was fine for about 2-3 weeks, riding around bumpin' music & loving it. One day around 2:27 pm to be exact i was driving to go grab some supplies. just a normal day when i was at the stop light and my whole car shut off.. I tried turning it on but it wont. So at this point im thinking maybe my battery had died.. I towed it back to my friends mechanic shop & he took a look at my car. Later he had found out my ECU & fuse box got fried.. he told me who ever installed the sub had did a horrible job.. I called the the audio store and told them about my situation and he said he worked on many prius same model and year. Can someone explain to me please.

Without more information, such as a better description of the damage to the car or photographs of the installation, it’s hard to say what happened, nor what—if anything—might have been wrong with the way the audio equipment was installed.

Perhaps the installer’s work is always defective, but in a way that has only a small chance of causing damage. For example, if the power supply wiring for an amplifier isn’t fused, or the fuse has a rating that’s too high, there might not be a problem unless there is also a malfunction in the amplifier, causing a short circuit or overload.
