    HEY PRIUS CHAT FOLKS !!!

    :):):):)

Because my PRIUS III came standard with the HALOGEN Headlamp System, and I couldn't afford the beautiful yet pricey LED Headlamp System standard on the PRIUS V Model, I picked up a set of the HID (High Intensity Discharge) System for HB II !!!

I have had success with the O-NEX HID Headlamp System Brand. Installed on my 1997 4Runner and 2004 Scion xB with success.

I am not a fan of the yellowish Halogen output and I am not a fan of the real bluish type of HIDs that are available. I have always utilized the 6000K version of HIDs which to me, are closer to a pure white in output.

Here are some pictures taken that day and evening Friday 10-08-10 !!!

The Genuine O-NEX brand HID Conversion Kit. There are counterfeit versions out there, the Original is housed in this Matte Black Finish packaging. The counterfeits are in the Glossy Black Finish so BEWARE !!!

There are LOW BEAM and HIGH BEAM Kits available.

I started with this kit, the LOW BEAM for now.

The kit includes all necessary Materials and Instructions !!!

There are two versions of the Ballasts that help to convert the power for the HIDs. The original BIG Ballast and this one the SLIM Ballast which I chose as it can be a tight fit inside the engine compartment, this Slim Ballast made it easy to find an inconspicuous location to mount.

The back of the Packaging reveals different HID outputs ranging from the Yellow 5000K all the way to the Purple 12000K. I chose the 6000K which is closest to a Pure White.

On the Back of the Packaging ...

Here is a pictorial diagram of the different outputs available.

I didn't to a DIY (Do It Yourself) Installation, but here are some pictures taken during Installation.

In my opinion it wasn't a difficult installation, just time consuming.

Comparison of the Stock H11 Bulb on Right VS the H11 HID Bulb and Harness on Left (within the clear cylinder for protection, must be removed prior to installation.)

I wanted the installation to be Clean and Inconspicuous from the view from above in the Engine Bay so I mounted the Ballasts underneath the Headlamp Housings.

    A quick comparison ...

The O-NEX HID Lamp on the LEFT and the Halogen Lamp on the RIGHT. What a difference !!!

And now some BEFORE and AFTER shots so you can see for yourself the DIFFERENCE !!!

    In conclusion ...

I am very pleased with the Output of the HIDs compared to the Halogen System. I am able to see more of the road and any obstacles that may potentially be a road hazard. Because of the Beam pattern in the Projector Housings, I have never been high beamed by oncoming traffic as the beams point to the ground where they should be. As far as efficiency is concerned, the HID system consumes much less power from the vehicles electrical system and generates much less heat during operation. Well you can tell where that leads as far as gas and energy savings !!!

You don't have to take my word for it, Google the difference and *see* for yourself !!!

    Happy PRIUS MODDING Folks !!!

Holy %&!# those HID's look really good. I have some 5000K in my car and I like them - maybe I should have went for 6000K.. Oh well I'm satisfied! I love your mods and they give me great ideas for my car. I can't wait to see the drop as I'm very interested in doing a drop. Cheap, and dramatically effects the look of the car. Are you planning on adding a "limo/5%" tint to your car too?

California requires a front plate. It could very well sit in the dashboard.

    HEY THERE AIRBALANCER !!!

    :):):):)

Yes in California we are required to have the front plates mounted on the front of the vehicle. The custom plate however is only going to be for show display at local Shows and Events.

Several of the Modifications I have done and will do will be for Show Purposes Only.

    Hope this helps !!!

    HEY TIDELAND PRIUS !!!

    :):):):)

That's correct, here in California we must have the front plates displayed in the front of the vehicle. Either on the front bumper or in the front windshield.

    Hope you're having a great weekend !!!

    HEY EDDIE !!!

    :):):):)

Your PRIUS is looking mighty fine there !!!

I really like how HIDs came out !!! What temperature did you go with ??!!

Maybe you can help me install some vinyl between the Solar Roof and the Rear Window ... I definitely need to blacken out that area. I've seen it done here before and I think it would really look awesome !!!

We need to start an LA meet soon, I really want to meet up with you guys and see what ideas we have in our heads !!!

KEEP UP THE PRIUS MODDING !!!

Indeed I am... I saw your car yesterday. It looks good! The curtains look nicer than in the pictures. How'd you get them installed again? I couldn't see from the outside.

    Love the LED DRLs.

How hard was the installation? The gap isn't that large so how did you fit them in?

I love the lights, but not a huge fan of the carbon fiber exterior. I like to keep it looking OEM.
