Disconnecting the negative terminal is disconnecting the battery. Your 12v battery is in your rear cargo on the right side. The terminal without the red cover is the negative terminal in which you want to disconnect. Remove the little panel that's towards the rear of the car to get to the bolt that's holding the terminal onto the battery. You'll need a 10mm wrench to loosen the bolt. Once loose, take off the terminal. All your lights should go out.

Don't forget to reset some of the flash ECU data that gets lost when the battery is disconnected - you'll have to re-input the correct date just like you did when the car was new (if you bought it new and the dealer didn't do it for you.)

hey, I finished installing it, however, I noticed that the right hand side of the steering wheel, the back black cover cannot fully be closed it, therefore, when i make turns the back plastic rubs against the other black cover, makes a scratching sound. Anyway to fix that ? I think the leather grip is slightly bigger and wont allow the black cover the fully close in.

So you got the piano black sport-version steering wheel from Nigel already?

Someone mentioned the rubbing problem and managed to solve it.

hey, yeah I bought mine off Nigel, got it installed but there's rubbing problem, the leather is oversized and wont allow the back cover to close properly leading to the plastic rubbing on both sides ><

And you tried the solution the other member mentioned (pushing in on the plastic cover on the steering column so there's no more rub) and that didn't work?

Sucks. Unless you missed a trick, it could be a difference with the Canadian Prius, as Tommy and others have installed this same steering wheel with no problems on the U.S. Prius.

re-installed it, same result, I noticed that when I torque the middle bolt to 37 pounds the steering wheel starts rubbing on one side, maybe I need to use a smaller wrench extender ?

I ended up torquing it to only 30 pounds, it doesn't rub as much.

Will there be any problems if I under torque the middle bolt for the steering wheel ?

    thanks

finally fixed my steering wheel :) The Canadian back cover is definately wider, so doesn't really fit the leather sides as tight thus leading to the rubbing sound.

Awesome. So did torquing the middle bolt to 30 lbs eliminate the rubbing sound entirely or did you have to resort to replacing the Canadian back cover with the U.S. version?

I end up torquing it to 37 lbs by using a digital torque wrench which is highly recommended, before I had used a regular one with an extention which is no good.

Also, FYI, when I did all this at my friends shop, he said that when you remove the centre bolt you should never use a torque wrench to remove it.

So what my friend did is that he sand off the 2 edges where the leather and the cover comes together in place, and it allows the back cover to fit in tighter. After that, when you install the cover back on the steering wheel you could see some gap and torquing the middle bolt to 37 lbs would be no problem. Hope this helps for those that have a Canadian Prius and looking to install the JDM steering wheel.

IF you have any questions you can ask me

    thanks
