    They were down about 3 psi from where I had them, but I think it's mostly the 100+ degree temperatures. Air conditioner was doing quadruple duty at least. I just pumped them up to 42/40 which is actually a couple psi higher than I had them before the trip, but the same as I had the PiP set to. We'll see what tomorrow brings, but I won't be driving in the hottest part of the day like I did today.

    OK, pumped up the tires Tuesday night to 42/40. They were about 36 psi. Not much difference, but then again, I haven't had any matching days to compare. But they have all been hot with more or less similar speeds. Tuesday was May 28, the day before the inflation. 29th was yesterday which was after inflation. 30th, of course, is today and so far only has the commute to work, which is very easy on the efficiency since the traffic moves about 40 mph under the limit when it moves at all -- and it's not yet screaming hot.

    So there's really no way for me to know whether the small reduction since the new tires is due to the change in tire brand or the increase in heat. I think that at least 90% of it is heat. In fact, given the same weather and driving conditions as I had in April, I might even get more miles/kWh with these tires. No way to know. IMG_1017.jpg

    If not much difference, I would drop them back down. Higher pressures have got to be harder on bearings and suspension.

    Even with a slight mpg improvement, don't see that it's worth.

    That said: 15" tires are more resilient, my 17's are likely colouring my attitude.

    Honestly? I can't feel any difference between 36 & 42 psi in this car. Then again, I think that behind my back my friends call me Captain Oblivious. :LOL:

    At the lower pressures, (36/35) my car feels slightly less squirrely in cross-winds.

    You might also consider that when you set them to 42/40 in the (relatively) cooler part of the day, the pressure will be higher when the ambient goes up to 100°F and that is before you start driving and the tires heat up from rolling resistance. It would be interesting to see what they read immediately after you stop driving at 100°F.

    For my winter tire set-up without internal TPMS, I have been using external TPMS. I now have them on my All Season tire. They are set 38 psi cold at ~50F. When it is ~70F (warmest temp so far), it is at 40psi. After driving ~300 miles on highway at ~70 mph, they are about 42 psi. However, when I did the same thing with winter tires earlier this spring before changing tires, 38 psi cold at ~50F went up to 42 psi at ~70F and 46psi at ~70F after 300 miles on highway at ~70 mph. Looks like winter tires (Micheline Xice3) are more sensitive to temp changes than the all season OEM tires (Dunlop Enasave). Oh, I have never driven a car in 100F temp all my life. In fact I don't remember if I have ever experienced 100F temp ever.

    Remember, as speed increases, the temperature on the outside skin of the car also increases due to friction with the air, which is far denser at lower altitudes like on the ground. That is why the SR-71 needed to be built from titanium.

    LOL!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: It's scary how many opinions and decisions are based on that kind of "logic."

    But something to remember in really hot weather is that air movement increases heat transfer. So, if the temperature of the air is higher than your body, and there is nothing on your body that evaporates, the wind is adding heat rather than taking it away. I don't know how to adjust that balance point to factor in sweat and a person's ability to produce it, but I have experienced it and it's kinda scary.
