    Santa is on his way. I just broke down and ordered one of the Duosida L2 EVSE cables from EBay. It should arrive on Monday. By then, I hope to have the wiring in place. December 26 will be the 1st anniversary of getting the PiP.

    It's a bit of a project because there is no extra 220 receptacle in the garage and the breaker panel is full. So I'm installing a sub panel next to the main panel with two 30 amp 2-pole breakers. Subpanel will be fed by the oversized breaker that's presently feeding the water heater. I'll move the water heater to one of the 30A breakers in the new sub panel. 10-3 Romex is EXPENSIVE! I had to get a 50' roll to reach up over the ceiling and over to the opposite wall. I'll also need a couple feet of #8 to feed the sub panel.

    I also found this nifty gizmo on Amazon so I can still track my kWh usage and will be able to evaluate the difference in energy needed between the two voltages.

    IIRC Jerry is/was an electrician.
    I am not sure you could offer new insights for this project..

    You guys are a hoot! :ROFLMAO:

    I'll be sure to let you know if I kill myself doing this. ;)

    But I try to not be offended by advice even when not needed. There's wisdom in listening to the counsel of friends.

    BTW, working in industrial electricity was definitely a cool job. Talk about wielding power!!

    One electrical engineer at my work was recounting:

    They had this big electrical contraption (excuse my ignorance of the terminology) about to be started, for the first time. He was at the switch, and several people were watching. At the last moment he thought perhaps I should duck behind this column, reach around to throw the switch, just in case.

    Which he did, and he hears shuffling feet behind: everyone else was doing the same thing. :ROFLMAO:

    I had a somewhat similar experience. I was about to close the 200 amp, 480 volt disconnect on an electrical panel. As always, I looked awkward as I got my head around the side of the panel so I wasn't in front of the disconnect. A chief maintainer was standing there right in front of the disconnect and I happened to see him out of the corner of my eye. I stopped and asked if he was wondering why I always go through those contortions. He said, yes, he had wondered about that. I said that it was so that, if there was a dead short somewhere, I wouldn't have my face covered in molten metal. His eyes got really big and he stepped aside. :eek:

    We just completed arc-flash training and they're ordering me my very own 12-calorie and/or 40-calorie suit, which is quite hilarious considering I usually work with fiber optics...... :ROFLMAO:

    I'm thinking that I could have a blast with some yellow and magenta signs and a Geiger counter in my neighborhood next Halloween.....

    I can see it now.......

    Up here a few years back, someone kept painting radioactive hazard warning symbols on those highway crash barrels:

    The watt meter is due to arrive tomorrow. YAY!! Cable is scheduled for Monday. Hopefully, I'll be all set to plug it in by then. I forgot to look at work today to see if there's any #8 wire I can have. I kind of doubt if we have any. Probably have to end up buying more than I need. :(

    The way I define it:
    Contraption = something large
    Gizzy = something small
    Doohickey = a big red mark on your doo.
    :rolleyes:

    I wouldn't mind one. A lot more of my usual driving would be in EV range. But I do miss that security blanket under the rear deck aka a spare tire. Time will tell. So will finances.
