i find the charge time to completion estimate to be very, very conservative.

I noticed. I hadn't really paid any attention before. But today with L2, it estimated 1.8 hours and actually took under 1.5. That's better than the other way around. (y) I got home from a meeting at church and plugged in right away. I figured it would be most of the way charged before we went out to lunch to spend our Longhorn gift card. It was all done! It wouldn't have even been close on the L1 cable.

I've been ready for a long time. The bank account, not so much. But it's looking better for the future, which is a good thing since our '07 isn't getting any younger.

    Update:
I decided that having the meter right under the 240V outlet wasn't the best idea. It's kind of dark back there. So I put it on top of the new sub panel. Much cleaner and easier to see. Also, way more room inside the sub panel for the pickup coil. I wish I'd have done that the first time. I would have been much easier.

Yup! Been hanging around with the other bungees for years. Now it has a reason to exist.

Update on L2 after one full tank.

When I first got the L2 charger, I noticed that it seemed to be considerably more efficient than the L1. I was right!!
One thing to keep in mind first, though, is that I don't know how accurate my Killawatt meter is, so I can't confirm the precision of the 120V charging watt-hours. But I have verified my 240V meter, and it's solid.

My last full and typical tank on L2 had 478 EV miles and used 119 kWh from my wall.
The tank I just finished was the first full L@ tank and it had 460 EV miles and used 59 kWh from my wall.

Both tanks had similar percentages of charge from free sources. My average EV miles/kWh over the past year is 4.75 including this first L2 tank. But this tank was 6.78 EV miles/kWh.

    I'll continue to monitor.

jerry, that sounds impossible? i never tracked 120 v 240, but didn't notice a change in our electric bill, which suggests only a small efficiency improvement.

I’m amazed, too. It may be that the Killawatt was wildly inaccurate. I should test it. Also, our electric ill is small enough that I may notice a difference same month year to year.

Edit to add: My charging load is small enough compared to the overall load, that the addition of the PiP a year ago made very little difference in our bill. I might not have noticed the change if I wasn't expecting it due to the PiP.

The one thing I've heard is a faster charge is a little less "effective", ie: not quite as full of a charge, and a little tougher on the battery. Small variations though.

Seems logical that it's a little harder on the battery. I noticed, though, that the L2 does taper off at the end similar to the L1, so I'm not sure about that first part. It's chilly here now, so it's hard to tell.

We've had several mornings this week with lows below 30 along with 20+ mph winds. It has generated considerable power whining among my wimpy New York friends who have gone soft living down here. They call that COLD! I call it chilly since I've been out in -30 a few times.

But they're not all whining. Here's what a friend put on Facebook yesterday.

admittedly, if we see anything below 50 while we're there, the tears will be freezing to our cheeks.
