    Darn. I want an install without modification and was hoping I could use this. I guess I have to look at the Boss BASS subwoofers.

    Without the grill on it will just sneak in under the stock floor panel. I'm not sure if there would be clearance issues (enough airflow) while playing music or not. It was a fun DIY project for me and really quite easy to make the replacement floor. But something like the Boss would certainly be simpler.

    Don, do you have the exterior measurements of this box? I'm wanting to install an 8w3v3 in the exact same location. Did you use 5/8" or 3/4" MDF? Thanks in advance!

    I didn't make the box, it's a complete product from JL. I found the page for the current one on their website:

    Dimensions are listed in the Specifications tab:

    I have to say, even this many years later I'm still quite happy with the sound it produces.

    Don, thanks - so the JL box fit under the cargo cover with only cutting the hole to allow the sub grill to protrude slightly? That is awesome. Much easier than expected. I appreciate your reply!

    Keep in mind that I replaced the cargo cover with a home made one. I didn't want to cut the original.

    I'm thinking about using the same location for my 3rd Gen Prius I wasn't able to find anyone who did this even those it's a great use of space.

    I would assume if it wasn't for the custom trunk it would probably rattle? Also, does the gen 2 have a spare tire? I'm wondering how your plastic tray stays in place? If I remember correctly, mine just sits in place without any hardware.

    Hello,

    I don't think I did anything special to avoid rattling. The only reason for the plywood 'floor' replacement was to allow for the hole the grill fits into. Spare tire is under the plastic tray - a bit of a hassle if I ever have to get to it!
