Lower to you, but why can't you see that having such a huge incentive is not a good sign. That large discounts and incentives to move cars off the lot is not a sign of success. It is actually the opposite.

Yeah, incentives are needed to help get something new adopted, but you got $15,000 worth of hydrogen for a used car. I know its a CPO; that's just a used car with a better warranty. For some used Mirai, that fuel card amount is higher than the asking price for the car. They couldn't sell the car until they wereessentially giving it away.

I know Tesla had free charging early on, but here's the thing, it wasn't actually free. They were charging $2000 for a car to have unlimited Supercharger access. When the car was ordered. After taking possession of the car, it cost more. But every body buying a Model S was opting for it. So Tesla increased the car's price, and made unlimited Supercharger access standard.

Preowned vehicle, not used as one can find CPO Mirai with very low miles if one seeks one. Only Mirai sold by a Toyota dealer are CPO and come with a fuel card and warranty. The ones you see advertised less than $15k are not COP’s. There are of course leader cars advertised to get buyers into the dealers that can be had for a few thousand less - but they are getting harder to find. So what if the $15k free fuel is an incentive to attract new buyers, especially in this economy. No different than manufacturers offering 0% financing to get cars sold.

they were giving the cars away for practically nothing coupled with expensive free hydrogen long before the virus hit. Go re-read that first thread pointing out that fact.

Preowned is a synonym for used. Toyota's CPO program is called Certified Used Vehicles.

Cars.com, at this moment, has 139 CPO Mirai listed.117 are under $15,000. The lowest is $11,392.

There is a big difference. With 0% financing the manufacturer is just giving up the interest fees. They still get the profit from selling the car, minus what costs there is for originating and maintaining the loan.

With the hydrogen card, Toyota is paying for your fuel for three years. Assuming a lease with 12,000 annual miles, and $13/kg, that is going to be over $7000 that they pay out. 0% loans only cost the loaner that much when the loanee defaults. Now Toyota is giving out that hydrogen card again on a used car with their stamp of approval. How often do CPO cars get a 0% incentive?

When your taking about a car with less than 10k miles it’s new still regardless if it’s preowned.

Pre-owned, certified pre-owned, it's all marketing mumbo-jumbo to sound fancy-schmancy compared to the word used car.
Certified Pre-owned is not a used car? Wow.
Only Toyota sells these as pre-owned? Let's figure out why. Where do you turn in a leased Toyota hydrogen car. Toyota. Who's going to give you anything but squat, if you were one of the rare one out of 100 that actually purchased instead of leased. Toyota. There's a reason they're on Toyota Lots. Nobody else would have them. There's a reason used Mirai are only on Toyota Lots. Only they can give them away for free.
Then again, Kool-Aid is tasty if that's all people really only want to buy into. In reality, the used car is a used car is a used car, regardless & no matter what fancy branding used car lot Folk say .... So yeah go ahead - call it a certified Ultra 129 Point super duper inspected certified gold medal previously operated. Even those with low IQ can smell the difference between a salmon jumping upstream waterfalls & one that's been ½ eaten by a bear, left lying in the sun for 3 days. Hmmm is that salmon used or pre-owned

Yet Carmax doesn't have any Mirai listed for sale. Likely just sending them to auction, and getting snatched up by Toyota dealers, who can ask $5k to $10k if the car qualifies for the hydrogen card.

The funny thing is, no one paid $60k as most all were leased and have been turned in after 3 years. So not really a lose for anyone.

Looks like CarMax does not want any Tesla either as there prices dropped over $7,500 as they sat on their lots. Looks like Tesla has a depreciating issue as well.

Tell it to Kelly Blue Book

and even if it had average or below average resale. Nothing comes close to loosing 100% like Mirai. You'd have to pay the dealer cash in order to take it to be worse than 100%.
But - Used Mirai are a bargain. Free !! Not that this is the least bit sustainable ... but Free !!

Normally, the leasing company would be losing out, but with all the incentives, not counting the fuel card or HOV access, they make over a $1000 even if they toss the Mirai into a crusher.
If you qualify for the full tax credit and California rebate, the $32,000 subvention cash Toyota is putting on the hood, the buy price is $13,550. Maybe my dead dog will get one.
"Overall, Tesla was the most expensive used car make on Carvana in the past year with an average price of $45,099, followed by Land Rover with an average price of $36,561.72."
Used Teslas lost $7,500 in value in the past year, Jaguars $5,500, Porsches $4,900 | The Business of Business

So Tesla started out with the highest average used price, and after a year, still had the highest average used price. The five luxury car brands compared did have their average prices get closer together at end.

But that bit a data is useless, as the site doesn't account for changes in available models on Carvanna, nor the age and mileage of those cars.
