    Re: June 2005 mpg averages

Temp in low 90's and humidity in high 90's. Strange thing; I decided to use the mileage display to give me MPG for various legs of trips which I make daily. I was amazed to see that going 20 miles to the nearest city, same overall elevation, I averaged 52.3 mpg. I reset the display to 0 to measure the mileage on the way back, exact same route, and got 50.2 mpg. I've driven 205 miles on this tank and there are six dots, out of 10, left on the gas gauge. Last tank I had reached 435 miles and had two dots left.
I have a difficult time understanding why the actual miles/gal measurement is roughly the same sometimes as the display and sometimes it is as much as ten miles off, with the display always higher/better. There are many mysteries out there, maybe this is one of them? Your input is greatly appreciated

Sorry, I forgot, speeds vary from 63 - 25. Driving, as I said, is mixed rural, suburban and urban

I've been mostly gone til today since we purchased it in early June.

Display shows 1117 miles. Spouse averaged 52.1 mpg and 1/3 of that is with 2 other people commuting in Seattle-Tacoma traffic. Some of the rest is driving to and from Mt Rainier 1-2 times per week.

She's doing good (and so is the car)

    Re: June 2005 mpg averages

Hi ...I have just joined Prius chat....I live on the south coast of the uk.
I am on my second prius.I got the first one in Jan 04 (T4) and a Spirit in May 05. I did 35000 miles in the first one and already 3300 miles in the second. I am averaging 550 to 620 miles per tank...58 to 62 mpg (UK gallons)...about 4.2 to 4.7 l/100.
I am very pleased with it. The uk has an amazing tax deal on green cars ...so it pays if you are in business to change the car regularly. is there any one out there from the uk.?.
The sat nav in the Spirit is good ....however it would be nice if it could be updatable without having to obtain a new dvd from Toyota...any advice would be appreciated..
    Regards
    Tony in the UK

Hi Tony and welcome to Priuschat. I'd suggest you go to http://priuschat.com/forums/submitting-nav...ns-vt10002.html
for info on the NAV reports. I'm not certain that Navteq provides map data for the world or just the US. But that would be the place to go to get current info. Also, to find the different forums for the subject in which you are interested, I'd suggest you go to http://priuschat.com/forums/index.php?sid=...1db14577be5ac19
and pick the forum/s in which you are interested. Good luck and again, welcome .

    Last tank for June

    Tank Miles: 494.4
    Total Gallons: 8.88
    Gas Price: $2.079
    Calculated: 55.68 MPG
    Screen: 58.7 MPG (for 300 miles--accidental reset).

Over 13K miles, 46.81 lifetime MPG

All city streets pretty much in Lubbock. Temps ranged from 70-100, A/C used minimized by me, maximized by wife.

My monthly average was 4.6L/100km = 611miles per tank. We run AC all the time as we live in tropical Queensland. Our driving habits are basically around town with at least 2 100km round trips per week.

Fuel price here in Queensland, Australia fluctuates but is around $1.00AUD per litre. Last fill up cost $35 AUD

I got my Prius for a week now. I've been trying different driving techniques and here are my averages:

    Miles driven: 451
    Average MPG: 57.8

Still got 3 bars of gas left

    Re: June 2005 mpg averages

    Hello All,

I finally checked my tire pressure about a week ago. I bought one of those cigarette lighter powered air compressors that goes from 0-300 psi. Unfortunately, the gauge isn’t very accurate. I measured my tires at 35 psi front and rear. Then I set this compressor to fill the tire to 45 PSI. I filled all four of them.

I immediately found the car to feel a little harder. The suspension seems to take up the slack pretty well. And my mileage went noticeably up. Unfortunately, we are having unseasonable muggy weather here in SoCal, and I have been running the AC more as a result.

Saturday Night I refilled the tank (numbers below) and drove 40 miles back home. When I used to average 47 mixed mileages, I pulled into my driveway with the consumption screen reading 55.4 MPG.

I have to remind you all that you should check your tire pressure. I don’t really like running the pressure so high, but I will if I can get 55 MPG!!!

I must say that I'm pretty happy with the fuel economy on my Prius, which I have had since just after Christmas of last year. The best that I have managed so far (driving fairly calmly and lots of highway driving) was 948 kilometres at an average of 4.8 litres/100, which is pretty darn good if you ask me.

Also, in an effort to combat rising fuel prices, the government of Ontario is going to start OBLIGING the oil companies to add methanol to gasoline so as to burn cleaner and reduce the cost.... I think that the methanol will be produced from corn, actually.

I still get quite a few people asking me about the Prius, and it's nice to see when other owners wave at me, though I don't see too many of them around here.

My only complaint is this... I personally don't find that the Prius gets better feel economy in the city and on the highway. It's unavoidable that with all of the starting and stopping that you do in the city, to feel economy will be worse. Does anyone else find this to be true as well?
