Replace the pump asap! That is the only priority right now. You are running an uncooled inverter, which is the heart of the hybrid system. If you fry it, it will cost as much as a battery. If you can't diy the pump replacement, take it to a mechanic now!

As for MA inspection, you won't pass if the codes are set or if yhey have been cleared recently. It takes some time and certain driving patterns for the system to set the "ready" bit without which you will get an emissions failure sticker.

Booked for tomorrow. 3 dealers- none had in stock today. So not sure how anyone gets this done quickly.

Curious to my as the check engine light isn't illuminated anymore.

I probably got overnite delviery from Amazon - it is a $60 item. I paid my local repiar shop $300 to replace it...they have a guy with Toyota experience. It's a DIY item if you are so inclined. Dealer will be expensive probably.

Dealer wants $575, but they have a 20% off coupon so that's what I'm going to do.

The reason is because the inverter is not hot enough to code. The lower temperature helps, driving shorter distances helps also.

Figured as much, thanks for the confirmation. Hopefully will get the part replaced tomorrow.

Yes change the coolant if it’s never been done, it’s due. If the independent shop is charging less them go with them. It’s a straightforward repair that can’t be messed up and it’s not like your dealer is going to extend the warranty.

Independent shop charges the same as the dealer with a coupon. I choose the dealer based purely on convenience as I can drop it off and go to work and not have to go to an inconvenient location.

Not to beat the OP mercilessly over the issue but I have seen this approach attitude in not only Prius Chat but other automotive forums and that is the propensity to ignore warning lights. Why?

    In this case.

Well the fact that the Red Triangle AND the Check Engine warning came on, is telling you that your engine is at risk, hence the term "Check Engine".

Someone marginally wise said to me once that we always have choices just sometimes we don't like them.
You dodged a bullet if no further damage was done. But driving a 100 miles in a vehicle basically telling you "Don't Drive Me", is never a good idea.
I don't know your location, but I'm guessing their are tow trucks, other dealerships, and even possible hotel rooms if needed.

My advice which will now be labeled preaching.....
Is next time you get a red triangle of death, and a Check Engine and Hybrid Battery Warning light, it doesn't really matter if you are a 100 miles from home or 1000....stop driving ASAP.
Heed the warning or the Bluesman could really end up singing the blues.

    That's a good price for a dealer.

In those situations, you call a tow truck and tow the car to the nearest repair shop. Find a hotel, rent a car, whatever it takes....the car should NOT be driven unless you want to risk inverter failure. Any of those options would be significantly cheaper than replacing an inverter.

Well I can understand not knowing what the codes were at first.
But once you know what the problem is you realize the risk.

I was originally reacting to the talk of just resetting the warning lights, and just driving again and again, but in this case the car will drive fine, but you risk the inverter.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Part replaced, inspection passed. Life is good.

To each his own, hard to say what someone would do in a given situation... I don't need to belabor every detail which led to my decision.
