Bought a 06 package 7 Today. I'm quite happy with the purchase. It's in great condition (in and out) and has 55k miles. Clean carfax, single owner and all the maintenance records.

I took it to Toyota Today to get it checked out and found out the previous owner had purchased the Platinum warranty so I'll get that transferred ASAP. Also, they said the 12v battery needed to be replaced, water pump and tires. Once I transfer the Platinum warranty I'll have that cover the water pump. I know the OEM 12v is quite pricey and saw a thread on this site for an alternate manufacturer so I'll check that out.

I would post pics but the site won't let me until I make 5 or more post.

Are you sure the dealer is saying to replace the water pump? Or is the dealer saying to replace the inverter cooling water pump? If it's the inverter pump, it's a freebee done under a recall from Toyota.

No, it's the engine water pump. I noticed in the maintenance records that the inverter pump was replaced at 43k miles. Thanks for checking though.

The OEM 12V should cost about $200-300 for parts, labor, installation at the dealer. You can also buy an Optima Yellowtop battery which are said to be really good.

Yeah, I saw that thread. I have used Optima before and their great so more than likely I'll purchase an Optima and install myself.

The 12V battery is supposed to cost $138.70 MSRP but some Toyota dealer parts depts are not ashamed to charge more. If you can buy the battery at MSRP, that beats installing an Optima which also requires you to install new battery terminal connectors.

Just purchased an Optima! It appears they ship from LA so I should receive it soon. Look forward to the install.

I don't mind the additional accessories/price to install an Optima as they have been solid for me in the past. I do appreciate the info. Though

I have a 2006 pk7 they are great cars, lots of toys

I have a water pump issue as well it weeps a small amount of coolant at the shaft, not enought to notice in the tank but you can see the pink "fuz" around the shaft.

I haven't changed it yet, working on the car gets harder and harder each time... I can't move like I used to.

The OEM manual says its only a 1.5 hour job, more like 2 plus in the driveway.

Just replaced the 12V and all four struts and tires this summer (124,897 miles as of the drive in to work today)

Yeah i'm enjoying the car quite a bit.

Toyota warranty informed me that the previous owner had cancelled the Platinum warranty (apparently Toyota reimburses if no claims are made) so I'll be purchasing and installing the water pump myself.

The Optima battery arrives Tomorrow so I'll replace that this weekend.
