I just bought a used prius and I am getting what seems to be low miles per gallon. What can I do to find the issue? I do have an OBD sensor and when I checked the main battery, it appeared to be just fine. I do not know much about cars let alone prii, please help. I do drive it for about 5 to 20 minute intervals if that helps. I was suggested to check the 12 volt battery with the vehicle signal check mode and I got a reading of 11.6 Volts. But when I took it into auto zone, they checked it and said it was fine and was reading over 12 volts. Thank you

The shorter the drive the worse your mileage will be. The car is barely warmed up in 5 minutes. Sounds like a case of you would have been better off getting a Corrola.

spend some more time checking the 12v. its a tricky situation when it starts to get low. a new battery is close to 13 volts.
its the load that the car puts on it when you press power that brings it down, and the drop is what matters.

regarding mpg's, we need more info. the best way to measure them is long term calculating at the pump, and keeping records to track them.
in the mean time, there are many things that can cause lower mpg's on a 12 year old car with 140k.
