I think Bezos is putting mass in orbit too. He's not a pauper, but then poor people usually do not build groundbreaking (disruptive) companies. Ford and Edison weren't exactly warm and cuddly but I do not keep that from driving cars and using electric light bulbs. Steve Jobs was a tin-plated jerky jerk face, but I have an iPhone in my pocket because despite the fact that their company politics do not exactly align with my own they gave our DOJ the middle finger a while back and.....their products WORK. Besides......they give teachers and veterans a 10% discount. Alphabet's corporate culture, employee demographic, and political donations strongly lean 'progressive' but I 'Google' stuff every day and use Chrome whenever it's available. I need my stuff to WORK. I don't care what they do in the head-shed or if the CEO is a wild-eyed, bed wetting, leftist who shovels money into the DNC with a front-end loader - which they probably are NOT if the stories about the DNC having to get a reverse mortgage on their building is true.... I get fiber internet free of charge as a company benefit and it's a pretty good product. It has failed more times than my cable internet did but those might be growing pains with a new buildout. Generally speaking fiber is more reliable than cellular because buried glass doesn't get struck by lightning, burned up in a wildfire, or iced over in a winter storm. Starlink has issues too but I have not experienced any weather issues (rain fade or lightning) and I overcame ground obstruction issues easily enough by elevating the panel. My system has enjoyed a 100% up-time for the last 8 months. I use SL as a $10 'throw it in a bag and go" backup and as mentioned as a fallover for alarm and camera when it is fixed to the chimney. I have it rigged so that I can pull the panel down in minutes without tools and throw the system in a bag to either ride out a hurricane in my central office or take it with me if I have to relocate. Katrina taught me that even in 2005, basic services can be interrupted for a prolonged period of time and that people do not plan to fail but they generally fail to plan. But hey....that was 21 years ago - riiight? RIGHT?! Hurricane Florence was in 2018....and although I was not personally affected that storm taught me that junk happens and we puny humans aren't going to outgrow autumnal storms, wild fires, ice, flooding.....etc....etc. The "E" in my PACE plan is HF Digital radio. In a complete, plugs out, infrastructure-free environment I can send and receive email and do very basic comms stuff, even if Starlink is down. I worked a trouble only a few years back where an equipment failure caused a near total cellular outage for a six county area. This is less likely in more congested areas of the country because of path diversity BUT 'less likely isn't NOT likely.' TIFWIW.....
: " if the CEO is a wild-eyed, bed wetting, leftist who shovels money into the DNC with a front-end loader .., " I assume this a trivial artifice to present US Political Left as 'way out there'. With no comparable presented on US Political Right. Rightish whacks ought not examined, because, well, there ought to be a reason for not. Readers here now surf on media seas they choose. And treat them as probative. Supporting. Providing flotation The big thing about Overton Window shifting is you ought not notice, or ought not say so, if you did. Quote above is from a strong Overton Window shifter here. Would merit our attention even if not forever offering personal opinions on, well, everything. Our collective punchbowl is improved by a wide variety of fruit.
