I have an issue with the key fob. A few days back a mechanic fiddled with the key fob and now when I unlock my Prius 2010 with the unlock button on the key fob it locks automatically after 30 secs, even if it is inside the car. What I saw the mechanic doing was pressing the buttons on the key fob in some sequence which I couldn't remember. Plz help how can I deactivate this feature.

What bisco said, mostly. Auto re-lock is a security function. Unlocking the car but then no one opens door/hatch is illogical enough that Toyota prevents the car from remaining unlocked by default. Although I think the timer for re-lock and or disabling the feature might be a dealer programmable option.

There are other locking/unlocking behaviors that are user configurable. The following is stolen from another post. Manual, page 69. The wording is confusing, so I'm going to change it slightly.

    Four options:
    a. Shift out of Park = lock doors.
    b. Shift into Park = unlock doors
    c. 12 mph = lock doors
    d. Driver's door unlock = unlock all doors

The procedure to set or cancel (turn on or off) an option:

    1. Close all doors and switch "POWER" switch to On. Another post has mentioned you need to keep your foot on the brake.
    2. Within 20 seconds select which option to turn on or off:

    a. Shift out of Park, auto lock doors - shift position "P", hold driver's door "lock door" for 5 seconds then release.
    b. Auto unlock doors when parked - shift position "P", hold driver's door "unlock door" for 5 seconds then release
    c. Auto lock doors at 12 mph, - shift position "N", hold driver's door "lock door" for 5 seconds then release.
    d. driver's door unlock, auto unlock all doors - shift position "N", hold driver's door "unlock" for 5 seconds then release.

(note that "shift position "P" is describing the current position, not something you have to do (the car is already in park when you turned it on, you don't press the Park button -- ignore manual on that one).

    3. The car locks will auto lock and unlock to tell you that it's done

ThankU so much for Ur post. But the thing is that I have issue with the key fob. When I unlock the car with the door handle and don't open, it locks itself after 1 min. And if the key fob is inside the car it doesn't lock.
But when I unlock it with the unlock button on remote key fob, it locks itself after 30 secs and even if the key fob is inside the car.
So the actual problem is with the settings of key fob

Thats really very strange, as the car should not lock if the key fob is inside the car.

Why dont you disconnect the 12v battery as that should reset everything to default.
Another option could be to remove the key fob battery as well.

I hope all well be reset.

This is not an owner changable option.
There are no "options in the key fob".

It probably has always been that way but you just noticed it NOW.

I agree, however, that it probably should nor re-lock if the ONLY FOB present is inside the car.

Are you sure that a second FOB was not present nearby when doing this test ??
