A good Super Bowl commercial has a story:

    Well done!

We liked that one. Not the car, but the robo-pup is cute.

    I'm not sure about this.

It's cute, but the dog running out of electricity kind of plays into the idea of range anxiety. Subconsciously I think it might entrench some people's doubts about EVs.

I do like the car. But two years' supply of EV6s for Australia sold out in the first 10 minutes after it went on sale.

Some top quality 80s Welsh soft rock, though.

Up till halftime I believe every car commercial was about electric vehicles. Did trend continue after halftime?

Seems all electric is certainly the hot item these days.

What I got out of that commercial is the ability of reverse charging, use your vehicle's stored electricity to power other things when in need.... Mobile power transportation... LOL

I don't watch TV... but I like this CM. Now, I want a robo dog before buying a BEV. LOL

After a few minutes, the halftime show lost me. Perhaps with closed caption, I might have tried to watch more but the show got 'too busy' for me.

I too was struck by the EV theme of the many car commercials.

Now if they were only available, not packed with dealer add-ons, priced so average people could afford them, not available only with dealer added profit charges, still had the tax rebate, and came with all the features they were advertised to have, powered by renewable energy 80% of the time, had service trained mechanics to back them up, didn't range degrade, didn't lose big amounts of range in cold or hot weather ......

And despite all that I want one.

    • "range degrade" - is a function of the battery management system (BMS) and the cell chemistry. The late Jack Rickard of EVTV advised the LiON cells like it best when closest to 50% SOC so I normally charge them at home to 67%.
    • "range in cold or hot weather" - I had increased to 75% SOC for this cold winter BUT had not anticipated 'cold soak' and 20 mph, sub-freezing headwind. But the car BMS and navigation system safely routed us to a SuperCharger. The density of the Fast DC charging network nicely compensates for battery degradation and weather effects. For example, I used to need an hour at an L2 charging stop to visit my Mom. But new Tesla SuperChargers completely cover the route(s).
Owning and operating an EV is a paradigm shift, new skills or relearning basic physics. My experience is with a Tesla and BMW i3-REx and so far, I've never been stuck. Like learning how to optimize the Prius, it can be done and there are a tremendous number of assets to ease the transition. For example, PlugShare is my trip planning software of choice.

Cars with engines lose range in the cold and heat too. They also get less efficient over time.

In Australia, this is really the key.

The bits I saw I quite liked. But wow - it really skewed old.

They made a big thing of it being the first all-hip-hop show. But with the exception of Kendrick Lamar, it was all stars very much from my generation. There wasn't much there for young people. Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige and Dr Dre are from 30 years ago, and Eminem is from 20 years ago.

Perhaps the half-time show relates to these points.

After all, you'd have to be at least my age to be able to afford most EVs. So skewing the half-time show to appeal to people old enough to be able to buy an EV would make sense. I mean, that line-up appealed to me, and I'm in the market for an EV.

I am not a Superbowl expert: for me, football doesn't involve helmets and body armour. Is this sort of thing - music for old people, and adverts for expensive stuff - how the Superbowl usually works?

I certainly think that was what it was trying to say. I just think that it might accidentally spill into range anxiety.

..... Or do they have younger stars when it's not hip-hop? I have a vague memory of Ariana Grande being on it in the past, but I could be wrong.

Perhaps it is only the hip-hop that skews old. And maybe that only skews old because hip-hop stopped being good when Kanye started to ruin it about 15 years ago.

Not unhappily, I missed the game, commercials, and the half-time show due to being called into work.

From what I hear it wasn't a bad game, but it sounds like the 1/2-time show was a little "LA Centric" which is appropriate enough given the location and the winning team. I haven't heard much about the commercials either but if they were about BEVs - the I already know all I need to know.
They're still at the developmental state that Apples were - pre 2010.

...still waiting for the Android version. :ROFLMAO:

I drank my first Monday AM cup of coffee from my genuine IN-N-OUT mug in the Ram's honor. :coffee:

Somehow....I haven't found an excuse to go to the Yoo-Tubes and watch the commercials.

That was my favorite commercial. I want one of those cars when they get more cheaper.
