Note: Nuro's fleet consists of modified Toyota Priuses.

Kroger and Nuro announced their autonomous delivery service in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Currently, the service is limited to a single location, but the program has already started, so people who live in the area can now place grocery orders and they'll arrive in a driverless EV vehicle. Here's the full story

Only thing I can think of is being stuck in traffic behind one of these stupid machines when it's not moving and knowing that honking my horn will do nothing to get it to move out of the way.

Well luckily with its max speed of 25 miles per hour, you'll likely be able to drive around it - if you're not in bumper-to-bumper traffic, that is.

If you had a decent truck you could run this unwilling to drive faster than the speed limit disaster off the road into a ditch without even so much as a scratch on your bumper... It could become a popular new fad, right? Everyone saying they see those things stuck in a ditch on the side of the road, more than they seem on the road. Think of all the melted ice cream that didn't get delivered in time...

A fender bender that "accidentally" runs it off the road has more plausible deniability than breaking and entering...

Don't have to "tip" the driver when it gets to your home. That is, if it gets to your home without an accidental incident down a ditch.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks these vehicles don't or won't work when they haven't seen one yet.

Yes of course... but the initial process of hazing is the very first step in gaining acceptance. :)

Also, humans are way more responsive to repeated horn honking then a machine will ever be!

How do you know that? Pretty simple to put microphones on a car.
    I wouldn't say never

maybe because there have already been problems with the attempts of perfecting assisted drivers versions of autopilot?

That's a fair statement. But there are numerous levels of autonomous cars. For example, everyone is assuming a fully autonomous go everywhere in any conditions type of car. But cars that drive only in certain geo-fenced areas on approved routes and at low speeds during good weather, such as this one require much less work to get to production quality levels. I personally think that these stepping stone technologies are what we need to do before the full AV.
We also should set our expectations properly.
Autonomous cars aren't going to be perfect and they don't need to be.
But they do need a very high level of safety and reliability to get people to accept them.

Humans don't like to share the road. It's hard enough to share the road with other humans, but sharing the roads with robots is going to get the same reaction from most people as letting loose a bag full of termites in their attic. They'll do anything they can to stop you. vehicular robots, much like termites don't serve our needs and in fact will be demonized. Of course as a forest ecologist, I can tell you that termites are incredibly valuable to a forest ecosystem and do a huge amount of work to create habitat in wood for larger creatures that depend on them for not just excavation, but as a high protein food source.

You high fiber members are always so concerned about getting more protein for some reason... Why is that?

Termites have special bacteria in their gut that can digest wood fiber because they don't know how... You still have much to learn about termites young grasshopper.
