L2 charger = 12 EV miles, 120V outlet = 14EV miles. Doesn't make sense to me..

At home I plug into a 120v wall outlet and I get around 14EV miles and that's in the colder morning. During the day at work I charge it at an Amtrak station via L2 charger and I only get 12 EV miles and that's in the warmer afternoon. Not really a huge deal but was wondering why as it doesn't make sense to me.

I believe that your car is estimating the range in two different places, right? One estimate at home, and one at work? Since your previous energy consumption is used for the estimate, I think you have a lower energy drive home, and a higher energy drive to work. Think hills. I'm assuming that by "get" you mean the estimate, and not actual range, but it should apply in either case - just reverse the hills. ;-)

I thought the estimate is based on overall consumption? I mean how does the car know where I am or where I'm going?

Nevermind, I think I know what you mean now. You mean the consumption is only based on the last trip? But I've plugged it in on a weekend at home and the previous trip was not from work. I still got 14 on screen. Unless of course, the consumption was similar.

    How is the elevation?

It could be a slight downhill in the morning trip to the train station.

I see the same type of difference at home and work...but the difference is only ~0.3 miles. Going to work (very slight downhill), 6 miles I consume about 4 miles of EV range. Going home I consume 6-7 miles of EV range. The elevation difference is about 120 ft.
The car averages many trips to come up with the EV range. So I'd think you need to have a pretty large elevation change.
I charge 240v at work and 120v at home and don't think this has anything to do with it.

What is the Brand of L2 Charger?
How much electricity does the L2 Charger say it charged the Prius with?
Could the L2 Charger be stopping charging when the Prius goes into final lower charge at end of cycle?

Give us enough info and time and PriusChat members will answer your question.

    Here's what I found out.
    Home elevation = 317ft
    work elevation = 830ft

My commute is 41 miles each way.
At home using wall outlet 120V, I draw 1.3kw.
At Amtrak, they have Eaton stations and I can draw 1.9kw.

The car uses more than the last trip to estimate range, but I believe the last trip counts a bit more heavily than the average. With my Leaf, range is estimated based largely on the last *five minutes'* of consumption, IIRC!

I suppose that in this case, the car will give a message that the charge was interrupted.

2 miles is a huge difference, i'll have to try my L1 and see what i get compared to the 12.9 i had today from my L2. i haven't put a full charge in with the L1 since getting the L2 last year.

    Bisco,
Looking forward to your test, it will help to clear-up things on this issue.

L1 at work and L2 at home and the readout is 10.5 EV for both for about a month now.

Is your commute flat, or does it average out to the same amount of hill and grade climbing each way?

Elevations are pretty much the same. It's 1 1/2 to 2 miles longer coming back from work because I have to go further west to a U-turn to head back East.

    Bingo!

That's 50 stories / floors difference. That will do it.
