Sometimes, things really can go right!

1/1 Called nearest dealer and ordered a White Pkg 8 w/gray leather, Nav, camera.
1/2 Dealer called, my ideally ordered car was in and waiting on showroom floor.
1/3 Bought car at $200 below MSRP (had to wait until 1/3 for the bank to open)
1/4 Gave car to wife as a surprise, and then applied for and received transponder.
1/5 Mailed application for HOV stickers to DMV.

    Just one week later...

1/12 DMV issues sticker serial number HE044,***
1/13 DMV mails stickers (postmark date)

So, in literally two weeks from my first phone call in 2006 to get a new Prius once the new tax credit came into effect but prior to the 50,000 initial sticker limit having been reached, what I thought would be impossible, let alone improbable, had just been accomplished. Sometimes, things really can go right!

    :D

Your story sounds fantastic. Almost hard to believe. You must be very happy with your dealer selling you a new car below MSRP. Why not tell us the dealer? I'm sure they would appreciate the referrals. And with the backlog at the Special Processing Unit of a few weeks, amazing they were able to get to your HOV Stickers in just a week.

An updated plot of the data is attached. At this rate the 50,000 should be issued in early March. With about a three week turnaround time, you need to apply by mid February to be safe.

Here's my timeline for the HOV stickers:

    1/1/06 Picked up car
1/4/06 Got Fastrak transponder (in person at SF office)
    1/5/06 Mailed HOV application
    1/17/06 Check cashed
    1/21/06 Stickers received

    #450xx

FYI, the Nav system messed up for the Fastrak office. It sent me to the wrong side of the street about a mile south of the actual office!

Thanks for posting your sticker information and approximate number. I thought they were issung 70,000 or 75,000... not 50,000...

Thanks. I read that awhile back when we were making the decision to buy the Prius. However, recently there have been letters going out to current sticker holders (effectively) stating the law can be revoked at any time. The last I read, the theories were that the state had decided NOT to do the 50,000 study and instead go forward with the 75,000 (the only thing I did not recall was if it was 70k or 75k). I was wondering if your information was newer than what I read last.

It was hard to believe for me as well, especially getting the stickers within a week!

Based on other reports of prices paid for Prii here and elsewhere, getting the car for a couple hundred below MSRP didn't seem to be nearly as big of a feat (or stroke of luck?) as getting the stickers through the red tape.

While the tone in your response appears to be laced with sarcasm, both the facts themselves are true, as well as the fact that these facts indeed ARE fantastic.

What is also fantastic is this website, where I learned the facts I needed to know to expedite the processing of my stickers. They are all in this and similar threads.

In fact, unbeknownst to each other, Kirk and I were at the SF office of FasTrak on the very same day, and were both misled to the other side of town by our Navigation systems. As Kirk will confirm, the wrong location gets so many visitors looking for FasTrak, they have put up a preprinted sign saying "This is NOT the FasTrak office." Kind of funny.

You should have selected the second "475 The Embarcadero". The first one put me at a pier, the second one was right on.

I originally got stickers numbered 12000+. I recently needed re3placa3ment stickers because rear bumper was replaced. Even though the form asks for your sticker number I got a whole new set of replacement stickers with number 4xxxx, along with a new glove compartment card with the new wticker number. So it seems they don't make replacement stickers with the old number. I wonder if this is taken into account with the total # of stickers to be issued? (eg, witgh 75000 total stickers but 5000 replacements ordered will they issue stickers up to number 80000)?.

    I doubt it. :)

I've ordered replacement stickers, too, so I'll see what number I get.

Sent for replacement stickers on 1-6
    Check cashed 2-24
    Stickers arrived 2-6

My number went from 0008xx to 0474xx

By the way, my two remaining old stickers peeled off easily, revealing the word VOID a few dozen times all over the sticker, front and back. The residual adhesive came off fairly easily with Goo Gone with no harm to the finish.
