How is this possible? Don't you need the license plate to apply for FasTrak and for the HOV application?

    Thanks,
    Scott

You just need a bill of sale with the VIN (typed!) at the Fastrack office in SF (475 The Embarcadero - on the *west* side of the street, towards Pier 39. Not the same address which appears to be near the bay bridge).

Supposedly you need the VIN to be in the DMV system with your info from the dealer, but I sent my $8 in with the Fastrack sales+ receipt (which has the VIN) - all of this on the same day I bought the car.

I did nag my dealership to make sure they sent in the DMV paperwork right away.

If I go and hand deliver the info to the FasTrak office in SF, will I get the receipt I need straight away?

I faxed our form off to FasTrak on 1/31 and they have no record of receiving it yet :(

Yes, you will receive the receipt right away if you go to the Fastrak office in SF. I mailed all my paperwork to DMV the same day I received my Fastrak receipt.

I can't get in there until Thursday, hopefully that'll be soon enough!

I did the FasTrak application via Fax too. It takes about 1 week for it to show up in their system when you call. Overall about 2 weeks for you to receive the pass.

If you go to the Fastrak office, bring at least a bucks worth of quarters for street parking. There are parking lots but they are expensive.

475 The Embarcadero is exactly on the intersection of Broadway and The Embarcadero facing the bay.

October -- Saw 4 Prii in a row dart past me on carpool lane. That was it.

    1/2 bought Prius
1/2 mailed info to FasTrak (big mistake as the round-trip took forever)
    1/18 mailed info to DMV
    2/1 check cashed
    2/8 stickers received! #48,000 (almost)

How did you find out about 'processing completed'?

I am just glad my check cleared yesterday :) Hoping to see my stickers by the weekend, so I can get them installed, and start using the carpool lane.

You can always call DMV and find out if your VIN is in the system. That won't tell you the status of the HOV sticker processing, but you'll at least know if the prerequisite step has completed.

Me too, me too! I mailed in my application + check yesterday. Hope it gets there in time for the 50K cutoff (if they do decide to do the 50K cutoff).

Mine was 48,000 (almost). They process around 1,000 per week and it takes about 2 1/2 weeks to get your stickers. My guess is that the DMV will continue to process applications even after the 50,000 number is reached until their study is completed.

    - Mailed application 1/13
    - DMV cashed check 1/30
    - Check cleared my bank on 2/1 with license plate number written on back of check
    - License plates arrived 2/4
    - Stickers (FINALLY!) arrived 2/9, postmarked 2/7, with the certificate that must be kept in car reading "Date issued 2/3/06"
    - Stickers are #45,8xx

I don't understand why mine are only 45K, and I don't understand why I got my plates first! I also saw plates numbered well after mine a couple of weeks before mine arrived. Ah, the mysteries of state government.

I'm just glad I have 'em, and can't wait for tomorrow's commute! Thanks to all who posted their timeline and sticker numbers--it definitely helped ease my worries during wait!

I'm wondering if different clerks have their own batches sticker serial numbers, so if your application went to clerk A, who had 455xx to 46xxx, you'd get one in that range. But clerk B has 475xx to 48xxx and you'd get one in that range if your application went to B. Just a thought

That would make sense. My license plate theory is along those same lines: that they are allocated in batches to each county, resulting in seemingly out-of-order issuance.
