Latest snow

That is amazing in mid-May. We are just a week away from Memorial Day Weekend which kicks off the summer vacation season on the coast. Yesterday it was 91! Back to mid-80's for most of the week.

 

Snow in May! I like it.

Our lake ice just swept out today, May 18. Latestest ever, following last years earliest ever, March 30th. We had 16 cm of snow less than two weeks ago. (northern Ontario)

Sure we had a cold snap for a couple of days in May but we're already back to normal. But we sure do seem to have a lot of early tornadoes this year. Tornadoes are fueled by water vapor, evaporation from the Pacific Ocean that comes in over Mexico and the Gulf.

Spiderman come on, that gal wants a family just like you, church on Sundays, home with a white picket fence, smart and healthy children, a good husband who is kind and prosperous, the whole package.

Going to Maui for 6 nights in early July with my wife. Saved for a year to do this trip. Always good to have a good vacation after working our stress living jobs you know the drill. Work, make money, save for retirement and take a nice vacation.

 

Generally, high moisture is a necessary but not sufficient condition for organized severe weather formation, especially tornadoes. Shear, lift and instability are typically also required (collectively know by the acronym "SLIM").

Of all of those conditions, shear is probably the most critical, especially directional shear (changing wind direction with height), which is known as "helicity". The stronger the helicity, the stronger the tornadoes will be potentially.

We're still a couple of degrees below climo for the month in East Tennessee despite above climo temps for the past several days.

 

Along these same lines, here is a pic I took on my street outside Wash DC to document pink Cherry Blossoms still in the trees as of May 1, 2013. Until a week ago there were still a few straggler pink blossoms up there.
