Probably won't ever be doing that again! Sad reflection on how a lot of people operate vehicles, in general. Not as safe out there as it once was.

Hey the one I'm waiting to hear about, is the texting driver hitting a texting pedestrian. Sad, but that will be the "home run" that MAY get people's attention! Definitely a Darwin Award candidate!

I thought this thread was going to be about another flamethrower or something from Musk.

i feel bad for parents of teenagers today, concern about texting and driving, on top of all the other dangers.
    now, another danger.

It might be that safety or lack thereof hasn't really changed; we're just now bombarded by the 24/7 news cycle, and of course, you have a crapload more crappy drivers on the road today, than you had 10 years ago. I'm waiting for $5/gal gas to thin the herd a bit, like high gas prices did before!

Just finished up a 2,750 mile trip to Florida and back. Car performed great, BTW. But, the stupid drivers were out in force. The usual almost asleep semi drivers and fast racing jerks. But the most prominent stupid was people that were towing things like trailers and boats that had stuff blowing out and into traffic. Bags of groceries, landscaping material not strapped down, a 5-gallon plastic bucket that hit a car's windshield just behind it, and all sorts of other garbage falling out. Boats that weren't covered were the #1 problem. All in Florida and some in Georgia. Also witnessed a motorcyclist crash into the bumper of the car in front of him - looked distracted. Beware of the I-95 and 295 area around Jacksonville.

But many people nominate survivors, not understanding that survivors are ineligible. Except in very special cases, typically young males suffering testicular avulsion or other disabling reproductive injury.

    Similarly, parents are also ineligible.

Yeah, the idea of the Darwin Awards is to give it to people who leave the human race i.e. no longer exist. According to Darwin, nature promotes the survival of the fittest. By their departure from the human race, they leave the human race in better shape.
For that, they get a Darwin Award!

I think Darwin was an optimist. It's more like survival of the good enough.
