Are you saying that you think jazz is vacuous? Now jared, we see eye-to-eye on a lot of things, but I would have to take issue with that! Thelonious Monk and Louis Armstrong were not vacuous by any stretch of the imagination!
Now I will grant you that much of the pablum that is sold as jazz (e.g., Kenny G) is vacuous, but no serious jazz aficionado considers that crap to be jazz.

I knew that would get a reaction. :)

Seriously, I like a lot of jazz and it can be very relaxing but so much of it seems like doodling compared to classical music. A lot of it lacks ideas. But then I don't know jazz very well. (Of course, it has more stucture than the well-tempered clavier compared to a lot of pop music)

Q: Why doesn't the Prius come with a sunroof?
A: Because Prius drivers don't believe in the rapture.
(you may need to think about that one.)

Just saw this one in another thread:

"Actor Charlie Sheen has joined a growing army of other highly credible public figures..."

"Charlie Sheen" and "highly credible public figure" qualifies as an oxymoron in my book

    Don Rumsfeld

[At least, they are to the credulous.]

one redundancy that seems to have grown like a nasty weed lately is "exact same thing". Is there such a thing as inexact same thing? or, exact different thing?

The other day, I heard a senator on the news saying that something was very very very very VERY important. As if you really need all of that redundancy. What, is saying "important" not enough or that it's not really important unless it's very very very very VERY important? Is very very very VERY important less important than very very very very VERY important?

It's disheartening to realize how many journalists and politicians and the many talking heads out there in America slept through too many english classes or didn't retain very much.

Why is redundancy seemingly so negative in the first place?

One could argue a redundancy is, in fact, futher emphasis...

A matter of efficiency? So what? Will we ever run out of space for words?

...or would you all rather we become robots and speak in clear, efficient, declarative sentences, with a nasal monotone?
