So, I posted that I was looking at at 2014, Two. At a dealer. 80k miles. One owner and pretty good dealer maintenance. But there are a few dings on the body, including a nice size scratch on the bottom passenger rocker panel. Took a picture of the under carriage there and the damage looks more extensive. Obviously the previous owner misjudged a curb, pretty badly. It drives really well. The price is good, which is why I’m considering it - $9000. So, what do you make of the damage? I’m fine not replacing it 100 percent, but think it should be cleaned up. Not exactly sure how that would be done. Any concerns? Is that plastic under the car protecting anything essential?

very unusual. this is not a toyota dealer?

i'm surprised that they haven't cleaned it up, but at least they didn't try to hide it

I'm going to be interested in what people write about that damage and how people think it happened.

The side is scratched up bad, seemingly higher than a curb and the bottom has the crap torn out of it.

I don't know.... I got my car from the toyota dealer which is the same thing as a "used car salesman". They went to a safety point checks after they pass it to me.
    4 bulbs are busted
front brake lower housing bolt "missing and dragging metal to metal"
fan belt was ready to snap
cabin filter looks like 60,k mlies not to mention the inside of the hybrid battery cooling fan.
they try to rip me off on a financing.
Its a good thing I get the chance to talk to people here especially Patrick Wong and I was able to maneuver the situation. I ended up doing the complete 100k miles maintenance. It was like a 3 days of continuous works as soon as I got all the parts. I'm glad it was all done and it came out right in the end. Otherwise it could have been a jack in the box....

Its actually associated with a Honda dealer. I guess you would call it one of their bargain lots. They said a couple traded two cars in for one and this was one of them. But yes I was surprised they put it on the lot like that. But yeah, they didn’t try to hide it. So I think I’m going take it to my mechanic this week. I’m thinking about offering $500 less or so, depending on what he finds.

I think I could see that happening when making a right hand turn and misjudging a high curb? Maybe actually going up on the curb at least partially? But I don’t know.

They're not protecting anything; they're to reduce drag. Looks like it's missing the rear underpanel and the rocker needs replaced. Part numbers are 58167-47030 and 75851-47902. Tell the dealer you want them replaced or to knock $500 off your price so you can do it yourself.

I actually did that once in my old 2nd gen turning into a narrow street with a high curb. I kept too close to the curb since there was also a car coming from the opposite direction and scratched my car in the same spot in that photo.
