Searching old threads, I came across a device that used to be sold which would unlock the Navigation screen and allow you to use the screen as a monitor.

Does anyone have something, or know of something that would work these days? The device I was trying to get apparently isn't made anymore.

    Thanks in advance guys.

The threads had mostly good info on using it, but most people seemed to be more concerned with typing on the navigation screen, and not having your phones screen mirrored so you could just use Waze, or similar.

This was a big deal in car hacking in early 2000's... It was a spinoff of all the folks hacking the ECU codes on their modified Hondas with piggyback chips. The first guy to make a picture show up on his dash screen in his hacked Honda actually got an article in the New York Times about it. But then smartphone and tablets moved in and the interest in hacking screens quickly faded because they'll never have the same features you can create by hooking a smart phone or tablet up to your vehicle. What's more the features provided on the newest models of cars, with the exception of Tesla. Also they still aren't as functional as a standard Apple or Android phone, because there's so many users in that market compared to users in all the ever changing car designs.

As an alternative you could add CarPlay this way

Yeah, I have one. I just pulled it out of my 2007 Prius today. I bought it a month after I got my car. It's got the AV inputs, automatic "I Agree" button, as well as in-motion navigation. This is from the order confirmation --

Let me know if you're interested and we'll work something out.

I'm looking for something like this in the form of a rearview mirror with rear cam & dash cam functionality. Any suggestions?
