Looks like I broke my gas float and I need advice

    Got it. How come I did not get a check engine, is the evap canister not connected back there?

    I imagine he meant on all pips meaning the full tank. That's how I read it anyway.

    I suspect all is fine. It takes a long time to come down from an overfill like that.

    It works now but I don't trust it at all. My last two fills gave me mpg stats that confirms my belief that something is wrong. Imagine one fill I calculated 89mpg and the next one gave me 32mpg; the pips are droping at 100-128 miles. The stealer wants me to bring it in at my convenience and I just might.

    Just run another tank full through and it will be fine. Don't panic.

    the most i ever got out of my first pip is 105 miles. period. that's all she wrote.

    I have just managed 186miles on the first pip of the fuel gauge at 64.7MPG UK tank (no bladder).

    Yep, that's similar to what I'm getting here (again without the bladder) Britprius. My MPG is a little lower but I'm routinely getting up about 250 to 280 km (155 to 175 miles) before the first pip drops.

    Of course it depends on where exactly the pump cuts out when you're filling, there's always about a 1/2 to 1 liter variation there, but I've found that on our bladder-less models the first pip is roughly equivalent to 3 normal pips.

    Actually I've now started to "visualize" the fuel gauge as if it has 12 pips instead of 10* (two invisible pips at the top end), and you know what, it's pretty darn accurate like that. :D

    * For example, think of 6 pips as halfway and 4 pips as one third way etc.

    When I do a "proper fill" (as full as possible without dangerous hydraulic lock) I go about 200 km before the first pip disappears. That's when averaging in the 4.4-4.6 l/100 km range.

    Two or three times I've confused the gauge processor and the gauge hasn't changed until the level in the tank has dropped below the displayed level. Once it never dropped, but returned to normal after I filled up the next time.

    It's a computer. It's easy to confuse. I know when it's time to fill up by the mileage (I try to fill at 1/2 a tank). That's usually in the 400-500 km range.
