While the keys from Toyota came with fixed, read-only RFID chips in them (you just registered those IDs with the car), some locksmiths or hardware stores stocked key blanks with writable RFID chips in them. They could duplicate your original key and also program the new key's chip with the same ID, eliminating the need to register anything new with the car; the new key would just work.

That's good info, so even if down to only the valet key, it's possible to make a spare w/o the master to register a new key. Not having a key to the trunk is no problem, unless someone pulls the lever in the trunk which disables the trunk release cable going to the cab.
