Love my Prius Prime But I think I love this more.......

    Show me more than about 2 or 3 states where those two numbers correlate with each other. 4 mi/kWh is easily achievable unless you are going 70+...but then again you wouldn't get 54 mpg at that speed either.

    Finally the numbers show how much you skew the facts to make yourself look smart and always correct. :)

    54mpg measured was in my Prime, on mostly 70-75 highway, in the wind across Kansas both ways and across New Mexico, measured at the pumps. In calm conditions at 65, I got 68mpg, but I wasn't assuming that. I've watched several Model 3 tests. One that comes to mind is the guy that went 280 miles on exactly 75kWh, on the highway, in moderate conditions. That's 3.73mi/kWh. So I'm being generous in assuming 4mi/kWh. My friend with the now-destroyed Model S 90D got 240 miles on 90kWh going from Colorado to Detroit and back. That's 2.67 mi/kWh at 78mph according to him.

    Oh, my Prime was completely full - full cargo area, four people.

    @Lee Jay and then there's the whole thing about actually spewing lots of ghg into the air....or do we have a little made up facts story about that too?

    You're charging the Model 3 off the power grid, which is something like 70% fossil fueled, about a third coal (but I've spent my whole career working to fix that).

    Don't pretend the Model 3's battery production is GHG free either.

    You have no evidence at all that my data is wrong. That's because it's not wrong.

    Use the EPA numbers if you want.

    Model 3 -> 120MPGe highway = 3.56miles/kWh = $0.0674/mile
    Prius Prime -> 53mpg highway, $2.782 average gas cost = $0.0525/mile

    model 3 juice prices (supercharger) turn on location - but don't let that stop you from making broad-stroke statements. That said, the typical person seldom if ever uses superchargers (long distance trips) because stats showmost owners have solar, meaning their recharge is free, which is substantially less than buying gas, once their systems are amortized. For us that took between 6 and 7 years. But again, no one's twisting the outlier's arms to get a car that doesn't work for them.
    Oh - & certainly no offense intended regarding locations out in the boonies. We used to have a home in Montana, and that too - being an outlier Place, an ev might not be the best choice for many there. And duh - if we were still way out there - and regularly needed to drive hundreds and hundreds of miles, it would be kind of nutty to think anyone didn't know why our alternate vehicle choice would be something not electric.

    Highest model 3 supercharger prices I seem to find are in SoCal up to the Bay Area, where they run between 20c and even a couple are at 22c/kWh
    How much is supercharging in California? | Tesla
    Of course many of those areas are nearly $4.00 per gallon of gas.

    You're right - there are some states as low as $0.20/kWh.

    Supercharging | Tesla

    Model 3 -> 120MPGe highway = 3.56miles/kWh = $0.0562/mile at the lowest rate available of $0.20/kWh
    Prius Prime -> 53mpg highway = $0.0525/mile at the average gas rate of $2.782/gallon

    Musk is no fool, he certainly wouldn't want people to clog superChargers because they're cheap skates, but rather use them in those Uber rare instances where you're driving hundreds and hundreds of miles. Again - the minority - that don't do the normal Uber cheap at home.

    Going on a road trip is uber rare? I spent 26 days on out-of-town road trips last year.

    If you're just going to stay in the city, a Leaf has more than enough range. In fact, I did 99% of my in-city trips in my Prime last year on its Ev-only range.

    If it's a city-only car, give it 25kWh, not 75. If the other 50 are for "uber rare" situations, you're hauling around all that mass for nothing almost all of the time. That's why such a small car is so heavy.

    are you factoring in the first 300 miles of Model 3 road trip at super cheap home electricity rates? Nationwide average is 12 cents...mine is about 8 cents...or about 2 cents per mile

    No, and I'm not factoring in my ability to charge at work, or the Prime's first 25 miles either. I'm also not factoring in the cost of my time waiting around for a slow charge at a supercharger station, and I can assure you that those hours are worth far more than the electricity. On one of my trips last year, I would have needed two additional hotel stays because of that. That's two wasted days and two $80 hotel bills.

    so yea .... some don't realize they are in the minority. Maybe check what the majority/average person drives in a day? ..... in a week? might just be an "ah ha" moment.
    oh .... and Hawaii costs are like gas costs there, so .... yea ....

    I think I counted 34 states that charge by time. Those are much cheaper than 20 cents per kWh
