Low Rolling Resistance replacement tires: Current List

    Gen 2 stock standard, P185/65R15. They are replacing my Michelin HydroEdge that have about 93k on them now (same size).

    sorry, this is a "late to the party post"....but...!
    I have about 40k on mine now with what looks like another 25 to go....great to adequate tires for the price.

    I'm getting around 48-51mpg with these.

    My best MPG was with the OEM stock standard tires. Go to tirerack.com and be sure it says OEM and MIJ (made in Japan).

    Keep in mind that TireRack testing showed a 1- 3mpg gain with other LRR tires over the OEM Integrity. Most OEM tires also have low tread wear and other negative characteristics.

    You mileage my vary, but when I went to LRR green tires my MPG dropped from 59 to 53. It could get better and time will tell. But I was extrememly happy with the OEMs and regret changing them early. At 38K I still had another 20-30K of tread left as I ran them at 44PSI. With the OEMs PSI made a sifgnificant difference in my MPG. With the new tires PSI does not seem to have much of an effect. TBD. Ask me at 70K. LOL

    Yup. :)

    I sold the little Salsa car and upgraded. I really really like the new one. I still have the 2005 for a couple of days so I drove it yesterday and It's so much more nimble feeling. I'm going to miss it. So far the mpg is about the same between them and the 2012 is harder to hypermile!

    After reading this article Eco-Focused All-Season Tires: Do They Deliver on the Promise?
    and several others

    I've decided to either go with the 422's or the Continentals. My biggest reason for that is those two have better ratings for snow/ice as i run into that occasionally. I've read up on the posts about just the 422's and they look very promising. Just can't find much more info on the Continentals.

    So which ones should i go with? Anybody have input for the Continentals? Price is far from a factor as i can get the 422's for 91ea and the cont for 87ea.

    there is a PR on Acends, no real testing. Tire Review - Orange Oil 'Ascends' Fuel Efficiency, Yokohama Says

    It looks like they are worse then Energy Saver A/S, if they were better they would compare to it not HydroEdge (and this is not even GreenX HydroEdge)

    With respect to OP, Energy Savers not that bad in icy conditions (though the grip generally goes down below 50F)

    with Ecopia 422 have them on different car and they deliver ~1/2 MPG improvement of Energy Savers. They are a little bit better in cold conditions, by small margin. Price-wise 422 are cheaper, but threadwear 20% worse they will not last as long.

    I noticed that BUT the 11% improvement over the Hydroedge would put them within the ballpark of the other LRR tires that tested well which include the Fuel Max, dB Super E-Spec, etc.. So being worse than the EnergySaver A/S is not a bad thing especially if it lasts longer and a better tire in general.

    Does the PR material specifically state which HydroEdge they used for testing?

    no it doesn't.. being skeptic assume non GreenX (otherwise they would brag about it).

    After reading the tirerack test results Fuel Max wouldn't be my choice as LRR.. but I've heard they get better after break-in.

    I am getting over 60MPG indicated on Gen III with Energy Savers (58.4@33MPH avg for 9700mi since oil change last november), it will be better when temps get higher.

    I hope the Energy Saver A/S becomes regularly available again. It's a good tire overall. I hope someday my mpg will get better in the GenIII. It's a little disappointing that it is basically the same as my GenII although I was running dB Super E-Spec tires. :D
