Nope, math looks good. That is very similar to the math I did when deciding on buying a Prius over a Hyundai, Veloster, or Foucs.
The Ascend was not discussed at the tire store, perhaps since it is not available yet. It will be discussed next week!

Thanks for your time and effort.

Tire stores tend to know very little when it comes to fuel economy tires. It is unfortunate. The Ascend T is available. I have them on my car. If the the tire retailer you are working with says otherwise then I suggest finding another retailer or speaking to a manager. :)

You should try working out the math for the Energy Saver A/S assuming a 2.5mpg gain over the Ascend using the Energy Saver's warranty of 65,000 miles. It could prove interesting. :)

Actually, using the Energy Saver A/S vs. the Ascend using the same math except I assumed a 2.5mpg advantage to the Energy Saver A/S (55.2mpg vs. 53mpg of the Ascend) and $388 purchase cost I came out with a $144 advantage to the Energy Saver A/S. This assume the tire is $97/ea. with the $70 Michelin rebate and having to purchase 4 new tires after 65,000 miles then running them for an additional 20,000 miles ($119 prorated cost of the new tires) to catch up with the Ascend. If you do not get the rebate or pay significantly more for the Energy Saver A/S then the balance shifts closer to neutral or in favor of the Ascend.

If the Michelin Defender gets similar mpg to the Ascend then it could be a good choice due to low price (if you get the $70 rebate) and extreme longevity. If mpg is worse than the Ascend then they may not pencil out.

    *edit*

I forgot to add the cost of mounting the second set of tires and disposal fees. So that is approx. $44 advantage to the Energy Saver A/S.

We now have over 61,000 miles on our Energy Saver Tires
195x65x15. We noticed an immediate increase of 2-3 mpg
over the original factory tires, Yoko Avid, same size
with 44 psi in each tire.

The Michelins were brand new with 44 psi (max sidewall pressure)
and the Yoko Avid had 10,000 miles on them so they were
well broken in. So the Michelin Energy Saver tires, even
though they were brand new, still received better mpg's
than the well broken in Yoko Avid.

So, its my belief that the Michelin Energy Saver tires
are the most fuel efficient tire made. Also the
tread life appears to be at least 70,000 miles, based
on I have at least another 10,000 miles of tread life
    left.

Thanks Alfon, I just ordered a set of 4 Michelin ES A/S and was wondering how they compared with some of the new model tires currently out. Can't wait to get them installed.

Alfon, I appreciate your enthusiasm for that tire but are you planning on posting that same comment in every tire thread and in this thread every other post?

I guess sometimes I forget how many times I have posted
    about this tire.

But I believe I was the very first one on this forum
to buy them and I just wanted to give my opinion
    on them.

    I'll just curb my enthusiasm.

What *is* the RR ? The spec sheets I found do not publish a value.

Justin, I derived the equations needed to find $/mile for different tyres when RR and treadware life is known. I'm waiting for my son to resolve library dependency crap on my Mac so that Python and PyNomo play nice together. Then I can share a nomogram.

I looked at that product on Ecometer from Auto Meter and it didn't list the Prius as a compatible car (nor did it list my 1998 Saturn).

Is it customizable for non "compatible" vehicles?

Looks like it's about $60. Is there a reason you use it instead of the MFD in the prius?

Could give them a call . Here's how to do so . Auto Meter and the main site for the Eco-Meter . Ecometer from Auto Meter . Our Eco is set at 94 for the Yaris and has been reading around .6 lower than the calculated gas mileage . So it's likely to be 42+ . Hopefully nothing will bring it down .

Re: Low Rolling Resistance replacement tires: Current List ; Ecopia 422s

Did a fill earlier of GULF 93 /E10 for '11 base model Fit with a 5 speed auto and the result was 41.22 m.p.g. ( 346.8 mis. / 8.412 gals. @ 1 click ) . The display was 40.8 . the 422s are set at 37 p.s.i. and now have over 1,000 miles . The gas was 93 w/E10 which included an interstate average speed of 68 ( 130+ mis. ) , 2 people for over 1/2 the mileage , many steep hills and city driving around 25% . Last pics are when arriving home after fill . Thus the 422s look to on par with the Dunlop SP 31s ( O.E.M. ) or a bit better . Do a fill of the '08 base model Yaris w/ the 4 speed auto and Eco Plus tires tomorrow .

Continental Pro Contact w/ Eco Plus : Did a fill of Sunoco 89 w/E10 for the '08 base model Yaris sedan with the 4 speed automatic on Monday and the calculated gas mileage was 42.796 ( 430.4 / 10.057 ) . The Eco-Meter showed 41.4 m.p.g. ( set @ 94 ) . May reset to 95 . The gas was Sunoco 87 w/E10 . Eco Plus tires are at 36 . Average speed of 68 for the interstate and about 30% city . Many hills and 2 people for over 1/2 the tank . This is a 11.1 gallon tank and the last bar started blinking around 12 miles before the fill . Always stop at 1 click of gas nozzle . Have pics , but won't let them download ( says too large ) .

Based on an article I read from Tire Rack, these tires get the best mpg when they are new, as opposed to well broken in. I don't know. Just wanted to see if anyone else had heard anything like this. Thanks.
