Common Motor Oil Is About to Radically Change | CleanMPG

With the increasing numbers of turbocharged and direct injected gasoline cars on the road, a new phenomenon has been discovered; low speed pre-ignition(LSPI).

This can cause major damage to an engine, and the exact causes still aren't known. Oil formulation is thought to play a part, and oil companies are making changes to try an reduce the risk of LSPI.
