I am going on a trip with a 2008 prius on which there are 82000 miles. Even tho minimal maintenance (regular oil changes)have had no trouble ever. What maintenance should I have performed, if any?

    Thanks.

welcome! nothing other than what the maintenance book requires. just make sure you check all your fluids, filters, etc. tyres pressure, blah, blah, blah. might want to check your 12 volt health. all the best on your trip!(y)

Tire pressure of 40/38 or 42/40 PSI (front/rear) is what most seem to use for their Gen2. Factory doorjamb sticker of 35/32 PSI is too low.

Transaxle fluid should have been changed by no later than 60,000 mile intervals. Toyota's schedule maintenance only lists this to be checked, as it is a "LIFETIME" fluid. What lubricant do you know lasts forever? Engine oil obviously not. Toyota ATF-WS, a lubricant for their transmission and Prius Transaxle, by analogy will not last forever too. Why does Toyota take this stand? Built in obsolescence. They are in the business of selling cars, that last just long enough for most consumers, before they buy another vehicle; preferably New, and another Toyota. Toyota's maintenance schedule is a MINIMUM. Going above and beyond their MINIMUM will help your car last longer.

Read this to get a different perspective on Prius maintenance vs factory MINIMUM.

If you plan to hang onto your Prius until it falls apart, read this to understand why the ATF-WS fluid needs to be changed.
Transaxle oil, recent analysis | PriusChat
FYI, changing the fluid on the Prius Transaxle is a simple drain and fill! Just think of a pick-up rear differential: simple drain (3 minutes) and fill (8minutes) of gear oil. A Prius drain and fill may take 15-20 minutes; 30 minutes if someone goes SLOW. Any unscrupulous dealership or service shop that says danger to computers/ECU or flushing is required, is to be avoided; don't reward them with your service dollars.

Entertaining reading on differing views on transaxle drain/fill.

Page 24, post#473 has pictures of my 2nd transaxle drain/fill after only 15,313miles.

This is a good read too.
