my dad was in the Army, we spent 2 years at Ft. Greeley in Delta Junction, Alaska. living there for at least a year should be a required part of growing up.

I lived on my parents fishing boat in Alaska until I was 5. He sold The boat in '88 after a bad storm nearly sunk us and it did sink a large yacht with 8 people that were never found.

Just a heads up: While it was depressing to get that low of mileage, I knew exactly why it was 35. I was being facetious while tying to offer a legitimate real world comparison betwen two vehicles.

Unfortunately, I was limited to what cars I could compare as to what cars were actually owned. However, this comparison was to show that in conditions in which a Prius gets 35 mpg, you will not get close to 35mpg in a conventional car similar in size. (In addition, the conventional car had a slightly bigger hit %-wise in the adverse conditions than the Prius did).

I went to www.fueleconomy.gov and looked up a 2001 Chevy Lumina. With the 3.1 V6 it is rated 20 city, 29 highway. CO2 emissions are estimated at 8.1 tons per year. The EPA ranks the Lumina 2/10 for it's BIN group.

The 2001 Toyota Camry 3.0 V6 is rated 20 city, 27 highway, with an identical BIN group ranking.

The Lumina would get 1-2 MPG better on highway driving, about the same city.

I know with my parents 2003 Buick LeSabre, it has always gotten much worse city fuel economy, and worse highway fuel economy, compared to my Prius. I've been driving the LeSabre a lot recently, so I have a ready comparison.

my heaviest load in mine was a COMPLETE solid wood dining room set. (assemble/finish it yourself) and 4 5gal pails filled with water, and well.. a lot of stuff for work. I couldn't see out the back, and almost continually had a passenger.

my MPG? 60.05 MPG for 230 something miles.
