I apologize if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything.

I recently purchased a Prime Plus and this does not have the timing preferences for charging.

I am wondering if anyone has considered using a heavy duty outlet with a timer? There are quite a few surge protectors that have this functionality. I assume that you could set it to "turn on" power to anything plugged in during non-peak hours (12am-6am for example).

Edit: Thanks all!! Turns out the plus model DOES support charging preferences! Sorry for the confusion, I will work on my google skills :(

That is a pretty good idea.

I guess the biggest concern would be finding the right one with the risks associated...

Per the manual they state the following:

●Do not connect the charging cable to a multi-outlet adapter, multi-plugs, or conversion plug.
●Connecting the charging cable to an extension cord is strictly prohibited. The extension cord may overheat and does not contain a Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI).
●Do not connect to a power strip.

you can schedule your charging to start at certain time or end by certain time based on each day (weekday or weekend), so you don't really need a separate timer, which would potentially cause a problem since it might not be able to handle the load during charging

The Plus version doesn't have all the Charge-scheduling provisions? I didn't realize that...

Anyway, I gather that the 120V charge cable provided has a nominal current of 15A (more like 12A in practice, but plan for >15A). If you have to use any sort of external timing or extension-chord equipment, as long as it's rated for, say, 18-20A, it's probably doable.

It sounds like the OP believes that the Plus version doesn't have the charge-scheduling features of the Premium or Advanced. That struck me as surprising, but not impossible, I suppose...

I have a PLUS and you can schedule it to charge now or to be charged at what ever time on what every day or days you wish. With a 120V outlet you can charge at 12A or 8A.

For longest battery life it is best to have it set for a departure time since having the battery at full charge for a long time is not optimum. It is my belief that a 120V charge using 8A is best for battery life and a quick charge using 240V would be the worst for battery longetivity. But I am willing to be educated if someone knows more about extending battery life.
