A real question is how much range is enough. Near as I can tell, long enough to reach a major airport where one can catch a flight. The only challenge is finding if the airport has provisions for charging the car while on travel. It doesn't have to be fast, 2-3 days, would be enough.

I can't help myself. I know as little as almost everyone else on PC about "Them" and feel the need to demonstrate my ignorance.

One thing to realize RAV4 is sucking some Prius sales, so we almost need to adopt RAV4 as part of Prius fam when we do the numbers. After that I don't know if it's that Gen4 is not fully out to all dealers yet, or lack of interest in Gen4 or all hybrids. CA I am expecting Prius sales should be strong due to higher gasoline prices out there. I am expecting at least 35% of hybrids to be sold in CA this year, dare I say maybe 40%? if the market tanks in the other states. A couple years ago it was 20% hybrid sales in CA.

Yep, 2019 is likely. Gen IV acceleration a little less than 10 seconds to 60, model 3 base a little less than 6 seconds, but options to be less than 4. Gen IV prius range around 500 miles, model 3, 215 epa for the base, a bigger battery around 300, the bigger battery size was not specified, but it will be available.. Gen IV prius gas stations everywhere, model 3 plug in your house, and around 500 super charger locations.

I doubt the model 3 is hurting prius sales, but low gas prices, lack of availability, and possibly too high a price. Prius v sales have tanked, and it really needs a redesign.

    We agree:
Replace the rear doors with sliding and removable rear seats and I would take another look.

Not buying a new car. I bought a 9 yo Accord for my DM who was driving at the time and we used it to take her on weekend trips. Didn't use Prius because wanted to keep miles low on it as it was giving me fits.
DM doesn't drive anymore so have option buy the 11 yo Accord or sell it.

If I didn't have the 'leg rest box' that I personally built for the Prius it would be no brainer to sell Prius. should be no brainer to keep Prius and sell Accord but it's not, so I don't give Prius much thumbs up.

NVH is already a problem in the v and sliding doors on a wagon/van create a really difficult sealing problem compared to conventional doors according to a statement by someone from Chrysler introducing their new mini-van (Pacifica) which will eventually come in a hybrid version.

OK interesting numbers from Hybrid cars
prius liftback (gen III + gen IV) 8,130 -14.2% from last year
ford fusion hybrid + energi 3,295 up from last year on the phv version
rav 4 hybrid 3,073 new so no data available last year
tesla model S 3000 up 50% from last year (inside EVs has 3990, and I think they are more likely correct, it was the number 2 electrified car if they are)

prius c fell to 2607 down 27% and down to 5 on the list.

    prius v down to 1331
that is bellow the c-max, sonata, camry, volt, and tesla model X

I work as an analyst, and I can tell you for a fact that I am 30% happier than the average Honda owner. What ever that means. Percentages, growth, averages, standard deviations, Tesla 3s and Unicorns are meaningless. 100% of me just put over 2000 miles on a Gen 4 Two (with floor mats). My gas costs are 50% less. My mileage is up 200% and I have more zip. because Prius.

    Bull!

    Facts and data:

Fact is when I see "percentages" without the raw metrics, I'm pretty sure someone is trying to misrepresent reality.

Here's Jeff Cobb's take on it-

So not so bad, considering hybrids caught in "no-man's land" between low gaso prices and high incentives for plug-ins.

Oh, don't forget the long lines of Ioniq buyers camping outside the Hyundai dealerships waiting to buy the new car.

And most importantly, a trend towards small and light truck SUVs. So Prius sales will go along with cars.

Good point, but last year I tried to normalize hybrid sales for truck sales, and that seemed to minor, but maybe I tried that calc too early, maybe should try that again

I thinks Prius sales are down because of the following: 1. Gasoline prices are at a all time low 2. The new redesign model is very different from main stream. 3. There are lots more choices of hybrids and ev to choose from.
