SOUNDS GREAT ! However, my Prius is Package #8 - BG which does include the NAV system -AND- I bought her slightly used. I did send in the "New Owner" registration card.

Arizona Charlie (or anyone) - Do you think I need to call Toyota individually and register a complaint/comment in order to qualify for the upgrade?

Okay, I'm a little wary about posting the dealer letter or the tech instructions, but here is what you want to know:

    Model Yr VinVDS Vin Ranges
    Prius 2004 KB20U 0001092 – 0116860
    Prius 2004 KB22U 0001205 – 0116351
    Prius 2005 KB20U 0116888 – 0131607

    Everyone gets disc version 04.2!

Call your dealer or wait for your letter! It's all free.

THIS is why I drive a Toyota.

Everyone, please thank Arizona Charlie. It's his persistance and intolerance of imperfection (and those like him) that made this free upgrade a reality.

The crow was good, I used a nice marinade. I use the claws for tooth picks as the feathers kept getting caught in my teeth!

hmmm that might be stretching a bit.

Arizona Charlie said that Toyota had already had the upgrade process started when he called. he just happened to inquire about it just before they were ready to announce the program

    Charles:

according to the thread that posted a copy of the letter you will receive, even if you are not the owner of record, you will only have to present your VIN in order to determine if you are eligible.

as far as the letter reads, all 2004's and 2005's are eligible if they had NAV installed. you have until 12/31/2005 to get it for free.

they do ask that buyers who have since sold their qualifying Prius, state so on the letter they will receive and to provide the new owners name and address if known as a courtesy im sure since any 2nd owners will not receive a letter.

    ...Thanks Dave...!

I had already taken a look at the generic Toyota letter in .pdf format and checked the following post regarding eleigible VIN numbers ("Letter about FREE NAV DVD update"). I am in the range and WILL call my dealer first thing Monday.

Is there a website that we can read Tech Service Bulletins, Limited Service Campaigns, and other notices to see if our VINs are affected? This way we won't be bugging our Service Managers each time we hear about one of these things through the grapevine.

Re: Letter about FREE NAV DVD update

Nate, my 2005 VIN has "65" between the "KB20U" and the last 7 digits. My last 7 digits fall within 2005 range you posted if you ignore the "65". Does having "65" drop my car out of the running?
    Thanks, Hank

The letter advises that the free upgrade program is in effect until December 31, 2005. If you are not experiencing major problems with the accuracy of your current navigation data base, it may be wise to wait until late next year to have the updating performed. That way you will enjoy a more substantial free upgrade to the then most current version.

Did we, in any previous thread, determine that the 4.2 version was better than anything in a 3.x version? Better, in measurable ways like roads missing from 3.x now found in 4.2?

Waiting for some future update for free isn't something I'd WANT to do, with all the swearing I do at the version I have now...

I thought it was my bitching in the car....I live in a rural area and it is very flaky. I hope they have improved the interface a lot, although I am become more adjusted myself.
