Metal Heat Shield hanging from under car

    Heard some scraping at low speeds earlier, looking at underside of car there is some kind of metal plate hanging down, center of underbody just behind the front wheels. Looks like it is some kind of heat shield? It is hanging by one fastener looks like.

    Anyways, just wondering what this part actually is/does, and is it safe to just pull off until I can get some ramps/fasteners and reattach in a week or so? Thanks in advance!

    likely a catheat shield. you can pull it off and drive, just don't park over combustible materials.

    It is held on with four 7mm plastic push in rivets.

    I replaced mine with M6 rivet nuts and M6 flange bolts, when I installed my catalytic converter anti-theft shield. M6 rivet nuts fit in the holes with no drilling.
