Prius platform is not about being solely an Electric Vehicle (EV), because that's not what it is.

Prius program was designed by Toyota to be a transitional program. It was designed to give the market and industry a platform to transition from solely Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) to solely EV.

The whole point of the hybrid is to use the synergy between ICE and EV, and the Prius platform does this very well. To get a better understanding, recommend to watch this video about Prius drivetrain design and functionality, or many others like it.

I think you'll find that most Prius owners very rarely use the EV button. I, for one, use it less than 1% of the time, for example, if I am shopping and need to move the car to another side of the parking lot. THAT'S IT. I wouldn't invest any money for such a luxury I almost never use, and certainly don't need.

Again it's called a "hybrid" for a reason.
