I drove a 1987 Dodge Colt years ago. It was basically a rebadged Mirage.

At that time, it was one fantastic little car. I wish I still had it, today.

Want good MPG? How about an ELIO?

The Nissan Versa at the same price is a more compelling choice. I sat in a rental and it just has loads of room. The Versa engine was raucous and lacking power. I can't imagine how much worse a 20% smaller engine with less power would feel to drive.

The Versa is a larger car. With the Mirage being 500 pounds lighter, the power difference between the engines will be evened out. The Versa sedan can be had for less, but is a true, old-fashioned stripper of a car with less cargo space than the Mirage. The passenger space can be more important but it comes with a 5mpg lower rating in combined.
