Someone, might have been me, might have been someone else....I really don't recall....posted several months back a link to a study (independent), that basically concluded if oil was changed on-time, filter changed on-time and the appropriate oil and filter were used, there was no difference in engine life for a normal vehicle driven in normal conditions.

I believe you are absolutely correct. :)

I just do little experiments, here & there, because I'm retired and got too much time on my hands. Like when I was testing Shell Premium "Nitro" in my Prius! :ROFLMAO:

I need to find a new hobby, and leave my car alone. ;)

I have a theory that premium gas can be used to avoid the oil catch can stuff. We always use premium, very low mileage car, and once a year oil change. Will let you guys know. Also put the best Mobil 1 AP oil in. Maybe, just maybe, after I die and my son is driving her, I’ll ask him to post about whether it’s burning oil and if EGR cleaning and the like was ever necessary....

Nah, it's still looking near-new. I had it in my hands yesterday, resorted to removing the entire air box to replace a passenger side parking light bulb. If I'd persevered in the braille contortionist with skinned knuckles method I maybe could have done it without parts removal, but I was looking for an excuse to do some wrenching.

Yeah, maybe more important is maintaining the level. It's those "my Check Engine Light (and or Oil Pressure Light) keeps coming on when I corner" posters, that end up needing a replacement engine.

Still, belts-and-braces is monitor level religiously AND change it at least per the schedule.

Do you know they only deliver 2 fuels to the shell station and that mid grade is approximately 50% v-power and it's combined with regular to create mid grade. You're welcome...

Mendel, Canada must have the cleanest air and the cleanest streets in the world. :D

Two days after I wash & wax my Prii, it is covered with dust again. And after only 12 months the air filter & cabin filter changes color and shows some dirt. But I will leave it in their longer.

I'm used to this wonderful life of... daily winds, blowing dust, droughts, brush fires, mudslides, crazy traffic, carjackings, hit & runs, and the occasional earthquake.

Colorado is pretty erratic too. I have to detail the cars I'm selling everytime I show them to someone. Park it clean and not be able to see in the windows the next day. That's the way it goes here too.

Wow! I wish the price per gallon only increased 10 cents per grade increase. It's $2.99 for 85, $3.49 for 87, and $3.99 for 91 where I am at in Colorado, which is still somehow cheaper here for premium fuel than it is for regular fuel there. Ouch! I see one of the reasons why you drive a Prius!

Everywhere is cheaper than crazy California! We lead the nation with insane gas prices. (And taxes.) I never knew WHY our gas is so high. We have dozens of refineries here. Oil drilling platforms off the coast. Plenty of gas. Plenty of oil.

I paid $3.89 for regular at Mobil yesterday. I'm not really complaining. $3.30 to $3.90. You just live with it.

    This is from last year:

"And, on Wednesday, California drivers will start paying even more at the pump with the gas tax rising an extra 12 cents, an increase that pushes total federal, state and local taxes to approximately $0.72 per gallon. "

And this one is this year:

How much will gas go up in California?
"The plan aims to address a $59 billion backlog in deferred maintenance on state highways, and $78 billion on local streets and roads. It raises gas taxes by 12 cents per gallon in November, and to 19.5 cents increase by 2020.

Welcome to Cali Forn Ya!
(the politicians have ruined this state.)

Well, I understand enough to know there may be no enhanced power from increased octane, meaning you probably get the same 700 mile range, or more, on regular gas, but I mentioned catch can, and that was to avoid knockity knock knock....... That I know is detrimental to an engine. I do not want to deal with a catch can and possible smog check issues......

Yes, gas is getting expensive. My wife has a Clarity so she’s running on our electricity for a good amount. I’ll pull out my old Haro bike to ride, and walk more. Lord knows I need the exercise!

    There’s always, (shuddering), public transportation......

Agreed. There was no more enhanced power. Someone in another forum was wondering if Premium would make his Prime engine quieter? Or something like that. (I don't recall the exact thread.)

So I took the bait, as a test, and ran 2 or 3 tanks of Shell Premium in my regular Prius. The ICE did actually sound a bit better. Or maybe it was just my imagination. :cautious: I think my 700 mile tank was a glitch, something off with the trip odometer. (Driver error!) I've never come close to that again.
